I was on the fence about this magazine because of the mixed reviews it has recieved. So I purchased one to figure out why the past reviews are so mixed. First off, I highly recommend the Ruger factory 20 rnd. mags. if you have any doubt about aftermarket mags. Plus Midway's prices are 2nd to none. I took this magazine to the range yesterday with my 580 series mini 14 and put around 500+ rounds through it, flawlessly. None of the described problems mentioned in other reviews. However, when used with my friend's 581 series mini 14, all or most of the problems occurred as mentioned in past reviews. So here is why: The 580 series was designed solely for .223 Rem. which is what this magazine was specifically designed for. While the 581 series was designed with slightly looser tolerances to chamber both .223 Rem. and 5.56 NATO respectively. This may seem like really small numbers but when you change the dimentions of multiple parts, ever so slightly, they compound together to create a problem. Which is exactly what other people are experiencing with this magazine not realizing that it's actually the gun itself causing the problems.Conclusion: While this magazine will work in other series Mini 14's, it will not truely function as intended. I highly recommend this magazine if you own a 580 series mini 14.

I purchased 2 of these mags based on reviews I had read. I was excited to get them to the range, but quite disappointed by the performance of these mags. I have had, and continue to have flawless performance from my Ruger 20 round mags. These mags, however, would hang upon loading and would not properly feed the rounds into the chamber. A round will eject and the chamber close, but no round will chamber. If I cycle the chamber manually, a new round will chamber. This is all with factory ammo of 2 different kindsThese mages are a pain at the range, but that is minor to the impact if you are planning to use them in a SD or HD scenario. I wish Ruger made 30 rounders for the general public, but I will stick with my Ruger 20 rounders until they do.This was a $30 experience that ended up being a waste of $$$. The only reason for the 1 star is you can't go with 0 stars.

Do not fit 582 Mini's and Tapco is aware of the problem. Keeping the mags to return to Tapco when they solve the problem, or sell them to friends.

I bought 4 of these mags ...

I bought 4 of these mags recently and when they came in they were in great condition except for one thing, none of them work. The problem is that the mags fit too tight in the mag well of the gun, causing the rounds to stick as they get to the mag well.

I bought one of these last week to try out and so far having just run brass through it its worked great feeding the rounds into the gun and the feed lips seem nice and sturdy so I don't think I should have any problems with it pushing rounds out. When inserting the mag into the gun the fit is tight but it is not as easy to seat and remove as the steel mags that I have. Overall I would say if you want a light and cheap 30 round mag you can't go wrong with these.

Please save yourself a ...

Please save yourself a lot of disappointment and just fork over the extra cash for Ruger mags. I purchased 3 of these and not one working mag in the lot. Too tight in the magwell, failure to feed, and failure to hold the bolt open after the last round. My mini is very reliable and has never had a failure until I used these mags ---- you get what you pay for!!!

It's important to note ...

It's important to note that Tapco has released a new version of these magazines, also known as "Gen II", which feature some key improvements. I picked up two of these Gen II magazines and they worked flawlessly for me, no FTFs or anything, and this is with some fairly older ammo in an older Mini-14 (186 series). They are sturdy for a polymer mag, have good feed lips and a steel-reinforced band where the retaining pin goes, to ensure a snug fit and no wobbling which can occur when a mag has been used for quite a while. I would definitely recommend these.

It should be noted that ...

It should be noted that Tapco has upgraded these magazines to address some of the problems previously mentioned. They have the same part number but the new ones are great. Midway now has the new ones and they work great. The new ones, sometimes referred to gen 2, have a metal reinforcing plate on the front of them just in front of the feed lips. Inexpensive mags that work as good as factory!!!!!!

Tried both of these mags ...

Tried both of these mags last weekend. I put 60 round through them and they worked perfectly and they fit my 580 series with no problem. In fact they fit better than the factory mags. I would not have a problem recomending to anyone who is looking. Good product at a good price.

Mags for Mini-14s can be tricky, but this one worked perfectly right out of the package and was a great deal at about half the price of a metal mag. Durable construction and easy to load.

I was so happy to find ...

I was so happy to find these magazines load easily, and function perfectly. I was appalled to find that when I hit the bottom of the magazine with an open palm 10 or more rounds flew out of the top of the mag. I tried this several times with the same results. I think the magazine lips are too thin and flexible. Check the AK magazine by the same company maybe 4 times more material there.TAPCO please change this as these are far above any out there for the Mini 14. Let us know when and we will buy more.
