Product Information

The Medalist stock combines the stability and durability of Bell and Carlson's proprietary composite material with an integral aluminum bedding system. The bedding system is computer designed and CNC machined out of aircraft grade 6061-T6 aluminum to eliminate the need for conventional bedding. This assures perfect fit, aligns the barreled action and stiffens the forend. This stock features a 13-1/2" length of pull and Uncle Mikes sling swivel studs. Hunting and sporting stocks weigh 2.0 lbs and come with a Pachmayr™ Decelerator™ while tactical stocks weigh 2-1/2 lbs and come with a Bell and Carlson premium recoil pad.

Please Note: This stock fits 1988-2006, 10 series short action, 4.275" action screw spacing, staggered feed magazine rifles only.

I have this stock on my custom model 12 in 6.5-284. Group size shrank by half after upgrading from the original cheap factory stock. I did open the barrel channel up to fit the heavier than standard #7 contour but fit was otherwise excellent. The flat forend sits well in the bags but does not accommodate my bipod very well. I machined a small aluminum rail to alleviate the problem. The stock feels great, too. The palm swells fit my hands nicely and the comb is of adequate height. This rifle routinely shoots SUB .75" @ 300 yds for 5 shots and around 7" @ 1000 yds also for 5. This is a great value for any target/tactical/varmint rifle.

I gave this a 3 star just because of the fitment. I had to grind a lot of areas to make it work. When I assembled it the barrel was/is oriented to the right side of barrel channel. I tried relieving around the recoil lug and it didn't alter the relationship of barrel to stock. When I tightened action screws the accutrigger was bound up and I had to remove the stock a few times to remove material in areas around the trigger to get it to work. The rear tang isn't free floating but I have no idea how much pressure it may have on it. I didn't attempt to remove any material in that area. I haven't shot it yet to see if I will need to relieve it. Other than that it is way more solid than the flimsy factory stock on my Savage 12FV. It should have been a drop in item.

Great stock overall. Fit to action was not as good as expected, ended up bedding the action. Length of pull is not adjustable with spacers :(. Love the grip swell.

I just wanted to make a point about B&C "drop in" stocks, or any stock that purports to be a custom, no-alteration fit. I've used the B&C stocks with the full-length bedding block in the past. Most recently I used one for a Ruger 77 Mk II in 7mm mag with a light sporter barrel profile. The rifle shot poorly in the factory wood stock and would string rounds after the first shot. No amount of adjustment/alteration to the original stock helped. I found that the B&C rendered the same result, even though they claimed it to be CNC milled and just drop in. So, I relieved any contact points and used liquid aluminum bedding compound to free float the barrel and re-bed the barrel/chamber area, recoil lug and action. It is now a one-holer and cloverleafs repeat shots at 100 yds. So, the point is this: you may have to do some work on any stock to get the results you want. No free lunch.

I own two of these. I think they are great. When my friends shoot them they always ask who makes this stock. I shoot them in Benchrest competition and shooting Prairie Dogs, they work well in both applications. As with all stocks I own I did some minor trimming and bedded the recoil lugs.

So after having this stock for a couple weeks now and dealing with B&C's customer service department I can safely say stay away from B&C.I got the rifle mounted into the stock and had to adjust one of the mounting holes as it was not drilled large enough for the screw, simple enough.Then comes the issue with the barrel channel. I have a 1/4" gap on one side of the barrel and the stock is touching the barrel on the other side.Now add to that the flange where you will mount your Harris bipod is not level so once you mount your bipod on and put the legs down it is going to pitch the rifle sideways and throw the sight picture off and you will see my frustration.I called B&C and they absolutely no help, basically either said to send the whole rifle into them for custom fitting, fit it myself or return it.I chose the latter and went with a Choate stock instead.

This stock fit perfect on my Savage 12FV, I didn't have to modify anything and the fit is perfect. I was skeptical at first from other reviews but it fits great and really works well on the gun. I would definitely buy another one for any rifle.

I swap this stock between my custom barreled .17 Rem and a factory .300 WSM. The stock fit is very good with no fitting required. It also fits me very well allowing me to shoot more accuratly. Stock durability is on par with most high-end manufacturers' stocks. I plan on purchasing more for other rifles and would absolutely recommend this product for other savage shooters.

I recently received this stock for my savage 12vss in 223 Rem caliber. The action fit perfectly and the barrel channel accepted the large diameter varmint barrel which was free floating without any need for modification. This is my second B&C Medalist Varmint/Tactical stock and both have been excellent. If you need good stock for varmint hunting or shooting off bags this stock is an excellent choice.

I replaced a Choate ...

I replaced a Choate Ultimate Varmint on a Savage 10FPLE2 with one of these. Shrank 100yd group size avg. from .5 moa to .3 moa.. Required minor clean-up with X-acto and sandpaper before attaching to action is reason for 4 stars, but solid recoil lug contact and no action movement away from that when screws were torqued. Get yourself a F.A.T. torque driver if you do any work on your own guns. I will have to level off the bottom of the grip to match the bottom of the rear as the stock's lighter weight permits a small increase in recoil and the bottom part of the grip that hangs down thumps the back of my bag-hand thumb. May not be an issue for others though. Stock is worth twice the price IMHO. I put the Choate on a Sav. 12FV. .223 and did notice slight action movement away fromlug/recoil block when screws were tightened. That gun was sub-.2 moa with the flimsy factory stock. Haven't shot it yet with the Choate. If the groups open up I will get another B&C Medalist.

Best stock available. The aluminum bedding block works great, the comb height and forearm are great. This is a quality stock better than H&S and McMillan.
