I bought my Lee reloader ...

I bought my Lee reloader in .38 special as a lark as much as anything. I was having some problems reloading hollow points on my progressive press, though I suspect that was mostly because of my inexperience. I tried using this tool, and my hollow point .357 and .38 special have been loading without crushing the lead hollow points. I've been loading wad cutters, semi-wad cutters, and round nose-flat tip bullets as well as the lead hollow points in both .38 special and .357 and everything has fired beautifully from my revolvers and lever-action. I really enjoy this tool. It isn't as fast as the progressive press, but it has really helped me understand the reloading process. I recommend it as both an effective reloader, as well as a tool to learn the process of reloading. If you get a hand-primer to load the primers, it is always a benefit also. It can be a bit disconcerting to be tapping on primed casings to get them out of the die.

I love this kit. First ...

I love this kit. First time reloading and it works pretty darn well. Take your time setting it up and after a while you can most likely load 40 rounds an hour without busting your butt and without mistakes. I found that using a little extra lee's case lube makes a big difference in how well thing work out. Out of the first 100 loads I have done I only set off one primer. it will get your attention but it was not too bad. I found that sizing and capping about 25 at a time and then powder and bullet seating and then crimping makes a big difference in speed, but to each his own. I like this kit very much. I will be buying a 45acp next.

My first steps in ...

My first steps in reloading in 1972. Still in use today. Great product with the following cautions: 1. It will only load round nose or wadcutter bullets. Semi-wadcutter or jacketed bullets will deform on seating. You need a screw cutting lathe to make special seating punches for these bullet designs. 2. This tool neck sizes only. It may not size brass adequately if fired from someone else's revolver. Same applies with high power loads. Brass may be bulged too much for Lee tool to overcome. Keep powder charges in low to medium range. Otherwise, you may need a regular reloading press and dies. 3. Use a soft face plastic tipped hammer. Most available is the 12oz model from Vaughn with red and yellow tips. Use yellow tip. Tips will wear through. Keep spare tips handy. Hammer readily available at Sears and Home Depot stores. 4. Use Lee Auto Prime tool to speed priming process. Keep these things in mind and have a good time.

I have one of these and ...

I have one of these and have been using it for years up at my mountain cabin (just can't leave reloading behind). A friend of mine fixed the problem of light loads. He trims cartridges to a length that holds his favored loads using a case trimmer and a scale to insure loads. Then he solders a wire handle to the cartridge. I have several I have made for the loads I like (PS remember to mark your custom labels if you make more than one).

This Lee loader was my ...

This Lee loader was my first foray into reloading. For very little investment, I was able to produce quality ammo that actually out-performed factory ammo. It is also lots of fun. I was so impressed with my .38 kit that I have since have kits in several calibers. For the novice looking to try their hand at reloading, or for the expert looking to have a portable reloading system to reload ammo in camp or at the range, this is the way to go.

What I like: This loader ...

What I like: This loader was my first try at reloading. It is easy to use it is fun to use and very portable. You can take it to a friend's house or the range for reloading virtually anywhere. Solid and precise construction. Produces very accurate rounds. What I don't like: At first, it is very unnerving to hit a live round in the dies with a HAMMER - but I soon adjusted. The rounds produced using the powder dipper are very light, thus fairly safe. I haven't been able to get consistent rounds from jacketed bullets and in fact shot two squibs that I had to hammer out of the barrel of my gun. All in all, this would be a good investment to a new reloader. Really helps to learn the reloading basics. The price is definately right. But I absolutely recommend using cast lead bullets, good quality primers and decent fresh powder for your loads - You'll save yourself alot of trouble. (P.S. don't buy any components until the kit arrives, it has the powder recommendations enclosed.)

I'm an experienced ...

I'm an experienced handloader. I bought this kit because it is portable and I have always wanted to try one out. I was really impressed with the quality of the kit. It makes much better ammunition than I was expecting, I can't see any difference between .38 Special rounds loaded with the Classic Loader and .38 Special rounds loaded on my RCBS Rock Chucker or Lee Classic Turret. Its slower than a press, but the quality is there. I still do most of my loading on my presses, but I'm really impressed with the Classic Loader, sometimes I break it out and use it to load some rounds just because its fun to use.
