The Redding #2 Master Magnetic Powder Scale is a super-sensitive scale with a magnetic dampened beam swing for fast readings. The hardened and ground knife edges ride in the precision milled stainless steel bearing seats which will not crack, chip or lose their alignment in any way.

Even though I returned this scale for a digital one, I think it is the best mechanical scale. It was far nicer than the 505 I checked out. It was very easy to see if you were 0.1 grain over or under on this scale, in fact, it was easy to see if you were 0.05 grains over or under on it. I ended up with a digital one which is why I returned this one, but if I had to buy a mechanical, this would be the one I would buy hands down.Only downsides are: The metal base is a little light, and the platform that holds the powder pan doesn't have any edges to keep the powder pan center on it. You just need to be careful when you put it back on that it is centered well.

This scale did not match ...

This scale did not match check weights used for calibration. Under 50 grains, it seemed OK. Over 50 grains it was very inconsistent. Other scales (RCBS and Lyman) matched check weights across their entire weighing range. When I contacted Redding, their "customer service" didn't know the meaning of service. They were rather rude and made me feel like it was my fault that their scale was inaccurate. Thanks to Midway I was able to return the scale. I think I'll stick with RCBS from now on.

I was impressed with the design of the Redding #2. I had a few practice sessions to see how it performed. The weight check calibration and powder tests results were inconsistent. Like other reviewers, the knives do not sit well on the pivots, causing the beam to not move freely and it frequently binds up and will not move. I am not comfortable using this scale and it will be returned.

What a lifesaver. Put my Hornady GS 1500 in check. When measuring loads the GS 1500 would give bad/bad readings. Upon checking with the Redding #2, I found my throws were consistent and within safe values. Definitly a keeper, highly recommended and Made in the USA.

I have been using the Redding No. 2 since the early 1970's. My first scale and the only one I have ever needed. Well worth the money. Your grand kids will be using it and handing it down to their grandkids.It is easy to use, very hardy scale. The magnetic damping is a very nice feature

I grew up using Lee scales. When I started buying my own equipment, I wanted the best. Redding has a well known reputation for quality, so I purchased the #2 master scale. I have used several other brands also and this by far was the worst. Very inconsistent. Weigh the same charge 4 times, get 4 different readings. Very disappointing. I have since replaced it with an RCBS 1010 that I wouldnt trade for the world. The Redding scale will be good for target practice.

you can't find a better scale then this one. If you want accuracy, ease of use and consistency this is the only scale to use. There are less expensive scales ot there, But as the "Old adage goes" you get what you pay for.

I have used this same scale for over 20 years and the past few used it to check my RCBS electronic scale. It has been spot on when reloading ammunition as small as 22-250 Remington and as large as 338 Lapua Magnum; it has been a great scale.

I received this today and am considering returning it. I have owned a Lee scale for a couple years while it seems cheap, and can be difficult to read and touchy to set, it has always been very accurate and consistent. This Redding scale is not. Perhaps I am being too picky but I have found it to have as much as a .3 grain variance in readings and rarely reads back to zero once the weight is gone and the sliders are back on zero. Bump it and the beam reading changes, doesn't come back to a stop in the same position. Bump it again, you now have a different reading than the last two. Remove the weight, then put it back on, and you now have yet another reading. I'll adjust the leveler to zero as per the instructions and every time I weigh something it needs re-zeroed. I purchased this assuming Redding was the top quality product, and because I needed more range than the limited Lee scale, but it seems like the RCBS 1010 would have been a better choice albeit more expensive. I am debating weather the .3 gr variance warrants me shelling out the money to ship it back to midway and pay to have the RCBS shipped to me.

I recently purchased the Redding #2 Powder scale. This scale gets the job done but I am not totally pleased with it. Mine does not sit well on the pivots and will occasionally bind up causing inaccurate weights. In addition the smaller weight adjustment slider is hard to position and moves very easily. When measuring a load that requires the slider to be at 0, 1 , 2 positions the slightest swing of the bail can cause it to move. I'm not totally bashing this tool since it does function but it is really touchy. I will seek another option the next time around.

I ended up returning my Redding #2 for a couple of reasons. Several, I believe, were probably due to something being wrong with the unit. Others, however, were design-based and were never going to get any better.Issues included:1) The seating of the knives was inconsistent and could lead to binding -- the result of which is false-low readings. Problem is, it is tough to know if the scale was zeroed with the knives in a bound or free state and it is VERY easy to bump the bar. I suspect this was a manufacturing defect on my scale and not a systemic problem.2) It is only a 2-poise scale. The notches for the 0.1 grain poise are VERY close together and hard to see. The scale is merely a sticker, and mine seemed to be slightly out of alignment with the actual grooves. Plus, the poise is black, the scale is black. All these together made the actual charge hard to see. This is an inherent design issue.3) The other comments about the location of the zero set-screw are very accurate. I was constantly bumping the scale trying to set the zero point. When combined with issue #1 above, this made it very hard to feel comfortable about the scale. This, too, is a fundamental design issue.That said, when everything was working as planned (knives not bound, zero set, poise in a known position), the scale produced accurate readings. However, the issues were too many for me and I returned it.

Unfortunately, I'm going to return this scale. It may just be me, but I find it very difficult to easily tell exactly where the poises are in relation to the grain markings.
