Database Administrator
MidwayUSA, a leading internet and catalog retailer of shooting and hunting products, has an exciting Database Administrator position available. This position is responsible for the maintenance and performance of database environments and their reporting counterpart. This individual will work closely with development staff and the eCommerce area, and will participate in new projects to identify the best means of storing and retrieving the information needed by new and existing applications.
Sample of specific duties:
- Ensuring backups (includes testing restores) for active production databases
- Assembling and implementing a valid data archiving plan
- Ensuring database security, including password security as well as keeping patch status up to date
- Maintaining data integrity of Database server(s)
- Recommend hardware & software upgrade and proposed changes
- Ongoing database server tuning
- On-call 24/7 rotation for critical issue resolution
- An in-depth knowledge of standard concepts, practices and procedures related to database management
- Ability to efficiently generate SQL queries and/or SQL reporting services (for database mining)
- Exposure to Data warehouse concepts
The ideal candidate:
- Expert user of Microsoft Office software and ability to learn proprietary systems
- A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience
- 1-3 years prior application development experience
- Will have a Bachelor's degree
