As 2014 is in full swing, the MidwayUSA Foundation is reflecting on its most successful year to date. A non-profit charity focused on funding youth shooting teams, the Foundation currently works with over 1600 teams in its Team Endowment Account Program. This number, along with many others, is rising every day. At the end of 2013, the total endowed funds within the Foundation to benefit youth shooting sports was nearly $50 million.
A grant system allows active teams to draw 5% of their account balance once per year for team expenses, such as uniforms, ammunition, travel, entry fees and more. Those payouts totaled $706,000 last year, a figure substantially larger than previous years combined. Cash grants for 2014 have already exceeded $800,000 with individual team grants ranging from $500 to over $26,000. “We’re impacting approximately 62,000 young athletes through our Team Endowment Account Program and have already seen more growth in 2014,” said Dick Leeper, Executive Director of the MidwayUSA Foundation.
Along with cash grants, teams can take part in Foundation promotions. These promotions allow teams to raise funds for their endowment, as well as current operating cash. Proceeds returned as endowment funds are also matched.
Last year alone, promotional items worth $800,000 were distributed to MidwayUSA Foundation’s active teams to use as fundraisers. Other ways they can grow their Team Endowment Account are general donations, team fundraisers, conservation partnerships and more. Each donation brings a shooting team one-step closer to achieving sustainable support for the life of the team.
