| Definition for "International Shooting Sports Federation" : (ISSF) Originally founded in 1907 in Zurich, Switzerland, the ISSF, formerly known as the International Shooting Union, has been a stalwart support of international rifle and pistol competition. Over the years, the organization has strongly supported both Olympic and non-Olympic shooting sports. The group was originally known as 'Union Internationale des Federations et Associations Nationales de Tir' (Initials used: UIT. Name used first in: 1907), then 'Union Internationale de Tir'(UIT, 1921), which became the 'International Shooting Union'(UIT, 1947) and finally its current iteration in 1998. | |
