Hodgdon Powder offers the largest selection of quality smokeless propellants for any reloading application.

It is probably safe to say Hodgdon H4831 has taken more big game than any other powder. Hodgdon was the first supplier to introduce this popular burning rate in 1950. Since that time it has become a favorite for cartridges like the 270 Winchester, 25-06 Remington, 280 Remington and 300 Winchester Magnum. As an Extreme Extruded propellant it shares the fine quality of insensitivity to hot/cold temperatures, as well as superb uniformity from lot to lot

Warning About Smokeless Powder:

Do not exceed the loads displayed in the reloaders guide.

Never mix any two powders regardless of type, brand, or source.

Never substitute any smokeless powder for Black Powder or any Black Powder substitute.

Been using H4831 powder ...

Been using H4831 powder since 1973 for my .270(s) behind the Sierra 150gr SBT. Deadly accurate! Doesnt matter whether it were a Ruger M77, Ruger M77 Mark II or my Remington 760 Game master. My favorite load is an old one from Sierra Bullets: H4831, 150gr. Sierra SBT & CCI Large Rifle primer . . . can't go wrong.

I have used this powder ...

I have used this powder in my 338 ultramag with wonderful results. It is clean burning, consistent, and yields high velocities. I am regularly getting .75" groups using this powder and Barnes x bullets. I highly recommend this powder.

This is the best powder I ...

This is the best powder I found for my 300 win. mag. With the 200 gr. Nosler Partition I am grouping around 3/8 inch at 100 yds. consistently. It does not get better than that with an over the counter rem. cdl. Only thing done to the rifle was trigger adjustment.

I'm currently loading for ...

I'm currently loading for a 300 Weatherby mag that just flat-out eats this stuff. When you cap it off with a 190 MatchKing, the results are awe-inspiring. This is most definitely not for light bullets, but just about any heavyweight is fine with 4831. Lots of good data on Hodgdons website.

I get very consistent ...

I get very consistent results, but not with all bullet weights. I use a savage 110FP .300 Win Mag, out of box. With the 200 and 220 grain match bullets and this powder I have been able to produce consistent groups at 1/2MOA. Out of three hundred handloads using this powder my average group size at 100 yards is 1/2 inch. However when I use bullets below 200 grains I have not been able to produce these results using the same powder with my specific caliber and rifle.

This powder works wonders ...

This powder works wonders in 6mm rem with 100-105 gr bullets. It will produce much better velocity than the 243 win in the 150 to 200 fps range, measured not guessed at. If you load for anything that is over-bore this powder is hard to beat.
