Product Information

The RCBS Sidewinder gives brass a thorough cleaning, inside and out. It can comfortably clean up to 300 38 Special cases or 150 30-06 cases at a time with either wet or dry media. The quiet motor is connected to a timer switch for automatic shut-off. Each drum comes with an extra perforated lid that quickly separates liquid or dry cleaning media from cleaned cases. Tumbler comes with one drum (extra drums are available separately).

Have owned this tumbler for about 3 years. Used it a lot in the last 12 months. Just last week cleaned 3,000 9mm, 250 44 Special, & 500 38 Special. Have cleaned a lot of 30-06 also. Does a great job on all cases inside & out, and is well worth the extra cost over the other style machines. Just pour the cases in and set the timer for up to 12 hours, although I have yet to set it for more than 4. The Drum is light weight and tough; it feels like you could only damage it by running it over with a loaded truck. The mouth is plenty wide to empty & refill with cases or media. The solid, tight-fitting lid means no lead dust filters into your garage or basement, and it opens & closes easily. The platform is stable and does not "walk around". Works equally well with corn cob or walnut shell. I must say that a liquid brass polish does a far better job than the RCBS dry powder additive. The unit seems to work best at about half full of media and with some air space for the cases to have room to tumble freely. The drum is capable of liquid solution cleaning too, but why bother with the extra work & time involved in drying the cases when the results are already perfect? For 100% satisfaction without risk, this is the one to buy.

Really Disappointed!

Very unsatisfied with this product. The wheels don't get a good grip to help spin the drum. I am going to try rigging up an old bicycle tube on the lip to give it more traction. If I put pressure on top of the drum (to dig into the teeth on the drive bar) it spins fine. Ordering the Thumler Tumbler and give that a shot.

I have had this tumbler for approximately four years and have been thoroughly satisfied with its performance and durability. I typically use a cap full of Birchwood Casey Brass Cleaner with an ounce or two of the RCBS Liquid Brass Cleaner in cold water and get fantastic results. I tried corncob media, but was not pleased with the results, so I now only use liquid media. It's a bit noisy, but gets brass looking brand new in about an hour or so. Simply rise the cases in the drum, empty and transfer to a colander (I found some flat ones at Wally World, but round ones will work just fine). Then put on some cotton gloves and run your hands through the cases while using a blow dryer on them. Very quick and much easier than using dry media. I can clean/polish hundreds of cases in less than two hours. Very satisfied!

I bought a Sidewinder way back when they cost a mere fraction of what they do today. The early 80's as I recall so that would make mine around 30 years old. I've cleaned so many batches of pistol and rifle brass that the drum edges that contact the drive rollers has matching grooves in them. It hasn't missed a beat since I bought it. I now use it exclusively with Stainless Steel Pin Media and the cases are like new, 3-5 hours depending on the level of fouling and whether it's brass I recently cleaned or stuff I picked up on the range. This unit isn't going anywhere soon. I'm hanging on to it as long as I continue reloading. BTW, the pin media is great. No more dust, no replacement corn cob/walnut shell, and I just "borrow" a little dish soap from my wife's supply :)

I called RCBS on Monday and told them about the leaking and warped tubs. They had a new one to me before the week was out. It works flawlessly so far anyway. I get aggravated sometimes at RCBS equipment but you sure can't beat their warranty and service. Most all of my bench is green.

I have had the Sidewinder Case Tumbler for about two years. It has worked flawlessly during that time. It has many advantages over the other brand of wet tumblers that make it fast and efficient to use. No bolts to open drum. No permanent connections between drum and motor. The timer is great and easy to use. Makes 45-70 black powder cases look like new on the outside AND THE INSIDE. Cleans primer pockets with correctly sized ceramic media. And, it is very quiet! The tub is easy to carry when full. The only issue I've had is that sometimes a few pieces of media get stuck between the wall and bottom of the tub, inhibiting thorough cleaning.

Considering the price, the two year warranty, and the fact that the plastic drum is subject to break/wear at the back bearing surface, this is an extremely expensive unit to use. The plastic drum alone costs more than most complete tumblers. Other than the cost of operation, I like the liquid media versus the granule capabilities.

Unbelievable. When I first bought this, I used it with corn cob media and was satisfied with the results, but on a whim, I decided to run a batch of heavily corroded cases though it using the RCBS Sidewinder Liquid Media, and every single case came out looking brand new. If you want your cases to look like they did when they were fresh off the assembly line, do yourself a favor and buy a Sidewinder and stock up on the Liquid Media. You won't be disappointed.

I have been using the tumbler for 18 years. This is not only the best tumbler in my opinion but also the best way to clean brass! Rotary tumblers are much more aggressive and clean much faster! 3 hours. Also it will leave micro fine peen marks on the case mouth, much like a micro fine shoot peen. This improves the brass. My case mouths do not slit after a few firings. The case walls usually become soft, tired before the case mouths ever split. I get around 15 loads and have gotten as much as 30 in none magnums. After working new brass, I like to use Lyman treated walnut shell for 1.5 hr. Then RCBS liquid for another 1.5 hr. This is the only tumbler I use. Love it!
