Product Information

Rainier offers a large selection of swaged lead core copper plated bullets that are low in cost but substantially high in accuracy. Rainier swages their bullets twice with lead wire in an effort to ensure the tightest uniformity as well as prevention of premature wearing of barrels. While Rainier doesn't publish their own reloading information, they recommended using lead bullet load data when loading their bullets as well as a slight taper crimp. Rainier recommends a maximum velocity of 1,500 fps.

These bullets feature a lead core that is completely covered by copper plating. They are resized after being plated with approximately 0.004" of copper plating. This unique design makes them suitable for most indoor ranges, which often require the use of bullets with no exposed lead. The base is slightly concave to maximize the bullet to bore seal.

Ordered 2 boxes of 500, (since it was cheaper to do so than to order one box of 1000 on sale) and loaded 50 cartidges 45 ACP using Win 231, WLP primers and mixed cases. I usually like to make sure the cases feed well in my SIG P220 ST, so I apply a moderate crimp using a Lee die. Since these are plated bullets, make sure the crimp is a light one to avoid damaging the plating. Excellent results, better than any bullet in its weight class I have tried before. I gave this product 4 stars because I have not compared it to other plated bullets. Very economical for the price, accurate, and they feed well. The best OAL for the Sig P220 is about 1.24 - 1.26 inches. Anything shorter than 1.20 can result in a malfunction (jam). Rainier Ballistics website provides some useful reloading data. The only negative issue is if you make a mistake in reloading these and you need to pull them out, you will most likely cause some damage to the plating, hence the light crimp in the first place. Overall, excellent product especially when it is on sale. I will continue to evaluate this product with different powders and at different velocities.

I initially started using these rounds about 2-3 years ago and they were great. However, as the price of copper went up the amount of copper on the bullets went down. The last batch of these bullets that I got had such a thin copper coating that fully 10% of my rounds peeled and were duds. No matter how much you modify the seating, you will get peeling of the copper. I would recommend going to a different bullet. These are not decent loading quality even for plinking anymore.

Loaded with titegroup and ramshot shot tight groups out of my glock 30, my Springfield XD 5" tac and my FNP 45. My glock liked them espically. They have a unique shape for a 45 acp I think it helps with feeding. Also if shooting with the sun to your back they are almost like tracers you can see the light reflecting off the bottom of the bullet since they are lead free the bottom is jacketed.

I have loaded thousands of these, (on a Challenger single stage and a LoadMaster) and they always function and perform well. I have not yet had any issues with thin jacketing as some have described, perhaps careful brass prep pays here. I always taper crimp to .468-.470, and have used many different powders, primers and mixed brass. I have fired them from Kimbers, Rugers, Glocks and even a Chicago Typewriter. These bullets are not exactly competition gear, but are accurate enough to keep me, my wife and our many friends and toys happy!
