Product Information

Rainier offers a large selection of swaged lead core copper plated bullets that are low in cost but substantially high in accuracy. Rainier swages their bullets twice with lead wire in an effort to ensure the tightest uniformity as well as prevention of premature wearing of barrels. While Rainier doesn't publish their own reloading information, they recommended using lead bullet load data when loading their bullets as well as a slight taper crimp. Rainier recommends a maximum velocity of 1,500 fps.

These bullets feature a lead core that is completely covered by copper plating. They are resized after being plated with approximately 0.004" of copper plating. This unique design makes them suitable for most indoor ranges, which often require the use of bullets with no exposed lead. The base is slightly concave to maximize the bullet to bore seal.

This was my first experience with Rainier "plated bullets." I liked them because they functioned in the HK USP. HK says absolutely NO LEAD because of the octagonal rifling, and I was a little skeptic about Rainier's "plated bullets." They functioned great in the USP with its octagonal rifling. No leading issue whatsoever. I did find that plated means plated and not jacketed. I dropped a couple of loaded rounds off the bench by accident and slight deformation of the bullet points were noticed. The more expensive Hornady JSWCs were subjected to the same test with no deformation. This was a small compromise given the price differential. Fire and function in the HK was great. Rainier gets my vote for a great price bullet. I can't wait to try moly coating a batch of these babies!! Shoot straight.

Purchased 100 lot of these bullets. Weights varied from a low of 198.5 to 200.1 grains. Using various target loads I found that on the low end of bullet weights these guys where all over the place. Like 5 or 6" groups @ 25yrds. On the high end of bullet weights they where very accurate 1 and 2" groups. These are great for informal target practice but don't expect very consistent groupings. That is unless you want to sort all the rounds.

Appeared that the copper plating was defective on numerous bullets. When the Rainier bullet was pressed into the cartridge the plating came loose and accumulated around the top edge of the cartridge on numerous bullets. I did use these defective rounds but had to brush them vigorously to remove the unattached copper plating material. Won't buy them again. A trust thing.

I use these in a weekly shooting league. Experimented with 8 bullet brands and weights and several powders and charges and these were the most accurate and least expensive. Use mixed brass. I felt very fortunate. Use in HK Expert and Kimber 1911 at 1.26" OAL. Bowling pins and 8" poppers are no problem at 18 yards. On a sandbag 1-2" groups at 25 yards if I'm very careful. Rare jam in the Kimber but I just cram the rear of the slide with my palm and keep going.

I got several hundred of these that were loaded and unloaded from a friend who couldn't get them to feed in his Kimber custom target 1911. I noticed his reloads were a little long, I proceeded to play with different lengths until I found the right seating depth that fed reliably in my Colt government 1911 and they ran flawlessly. I was also well pleased with their accuracy, I recomend these as long as you have the skill and patience to find the proper length and crimp for your particular pistol.

Springfield .45 XDM does ...

Springfield .45 XDM does not like to load these. After trying different lengths, from 1.200 to 1.270, 1.260 is the best but still isn't loading right every time on a short 25 rd sample each of rounds at 1.255, 1.260, 1.265, 1.270. The front of the bullets seems to be smaller than other SWC I've had no trouble with.

Bought 2000 for the deal ...

Bought 2000 for the deal offered. Found that I had to set my crimp back a little as I was crushing the jacket, and getting feeding problems as an effect. Once I eased up on the crimp they loaded great and shoot even better. Had zero problems with set back even with a lighter than normal crimp, I am guessing due to long surface area of base. Can't say enough good. Thanks Rainier for making a top notch product. Michael A. Landrus

These bullets in front of ...

These bullets in front of 5.5 gr. of 231 @ 1.265oal consistently group into one ragged hole in the center @ 25 yards with no smoke and very reliable feeding in any of my 1911 Government models. Recoil is also very mild and with an 18# spring the brass is never thrown more than 8 feet, with most of it landing at about 4 feet. The beauty of this is that the same parts will also perform well with GI hardball. I lightly taper crimp with a Lee carbide crimp die with almost no effect on the shape of the bullet. The only thing I have noticed is that a bullet of this shape, weather cast or plated seems to be magazine sensitive. I've had the best performance from the Wilson-Rogers 8 round magazines. None of the old style magazines with tapered lips seem to consistently feed. These bullets overall are a great value, and I recommend them highly and will personally continue to buy and use them. Thanks to Midway USA for great service

I'm very satisfied having just finished the first 1000 of my 2000 order; neat, crisp punches in the paper. It took several tries at finding the OAL that satisfied all of my 1911's but I've found that 1.275" (long, I know) feeds well in my Wilson, Kimber, Colt, Springfield, and Sig.

Maybe I got a bad batch, ...

Maybe I got a bad batch, but I HIGHLY recommend getting a small quantity of these to see if they work for you if you insist on buying them for use in a semi-auto. My Colt 70 Mk IV and Glock G30SF hate these things. 50% don't feed in either gun. I've tried adjusting OAL to no avail. I also think they are too SOFT. If I rack these into the chamber and then take the round out, the bullet tip is deformed. I've never seen that even on lead bullets. I going to give the last 200 away. PS: I've never had any trouble with any other brand: copper or lead and I have been reloading 45s for 40 years.

No feeding problems in my Springfield Range Officer. Very accurate and perfect holes. Have tried with several different loads with not a single problem. Nice not to have to worry about lead.

I have been using ...

I have been using Rainier's round nose with great luck feeding with no failures. I thought I would try some of these SWC to see how they would feed in my Les Baer so I bought 100 to try. I loaded them with Clays powder and they worked perfectly with no feeding problems what so ever. They punched perfect holes in paper and were very accurate at 10, 15, and 25 yards. I'm going to order another 2000 to use for IDPA and USPSA shoots now that I know they work in my Baer.
