Product Information

The Berger Hunting bullet line features VLD match grade bullets that have the highest possible ballistic coefficient designed for 300 yards or more. Berger recommends that the bullets be seated to touch the rifling for best accuracy. Note, however, that the resulting cartridge overall length may be too long for some magazines. The VLD design incorporates a sharp nose that allows the bullet to penetrate 2" to 3" before it starts to expand. After the initial expansion, the bullet will shed between 40% and 85% of its weight as shrapnel into the surrounding tissue (internal organs). The combination between the shrapnel and the hydrostatic shock produces a massive wound cavity within the vital area that will be 13" - 15" long. This is not loaded ammunition.

Just broke in a fresh 6mm ...

Just broke in a fresh 6mm BR barrel. My first with 1-8" twist purchased factory loaded 105's thinking it was less trouble than loading just for the breaking in process. Groups were in the .200"-.250" range @ 100 yards. At this point my bro and I are stoked. Then I remember the reloads I had taken along to try using the 105 Berger hunting VLD's. Fired all three before I said a word to my brother. Then I let him look through the scope. Best group to date!!! Measured .090"!!! Need I say more?

I shoot this out of a ...

I shoot this out of a restocked Remington SPS Varmint with H1000 and with Remington's 9.125 twist it has been stable out to 1000 yards at 961 ASL and 60 degrees. The Hornady A-Max 105 has also been stable. Both loads are moving nearly the same speed and print almost to the same point at 600 yards, 1/10 of a mil or 2 inches difference, at 1000 the Berger uses 4/10 less or about 14.5" inches less elevation with tighter groups.

I'm shooting this bullet ...

I'm shooting this bullet in a 10 twist 5r Icon with outstanding results for a hunting rifle..Groups no worse than 1/2" with many 1/4" groups. Using IMR4831 I'm pushing it at 3000fps. I can't make them shoot in a 9 1/4 Savage better than 1", but it will work for short range hunting. BC high enough that 2900 fps would carry to 1000 for the target shooter without going subsonic..I'm .010 of the lands and have the best grouping in the Savage at .025 off.

No other 6mm bullet I ...

No other 6mm bullet I have ever shot shoots as well as these do. In a 6MM AI the std size group will go under 1/2 every time with many groups going under 1/4. These require a 1-8" barrel and kept around 31-3200fps they are very consistent. One thing I did notice is that they shoot the same size group at 200 as they averaged at 100. I will be trying some 95grn. VLD's soon to see if will quiet down inside of 100 yards

These bullets have ...

These bullets have consistently out shot other brands in my 6mm BR and 6mm XC that I shoot in competition. For an 8 twist 6mm, the Berger 105VLD style bullets are un-rivaled in my opinion.
