The Berger Hunting bullet line features VLD match grade bullets that have the highest possible ballistic coefficient designed for 300 yards or more. Berger recommends that the bullets be seated to touch the rifling for best accuracy. Note, however, that the resulting cartridge overall length may be too long for some magazines. The VLD design incorporates a sharp nose that allows the bullet to penetrate 2" to 3" before it starts to expand. After the initial expansion, the bullet will shed between 40% and 85% of its weight as shrapnel into the surrounding tissue (internal organs). The combination between the shrapnel and the hydrostatic shock produces a massive wound cavity within the vital area that will be 13" - 15" long. This is not loaded ammunition.

Very accurate bullet out of my factory rem 700 7 RM. Shoots under .5" at 100 yards and have shot some groups at 700 yards prone/bipod that measured 3.5" and 5" respectively. RL-22 produces 3000fps. Still has over 1000ft lbs energy at 1000yards. I killed my muley buck last year at 618 yards with 1 well placed high shoulder shot. The buck crumpled and left about a 2" exit, the internal damage was simply amazing. Also shot a few coyotes with them with same performance. Great dual purpose bullet for hunting/targets.

Last year I shot 2 bull elk with these bullets (168gr Berger VLD Hunting at 2750 fps) at approx. 60 -70 yards and lost both animals. Good shot placement, just poor bullet performance. The bullet is too lightly constructed for Elk and such game. Would maybe use for deer. Great target bullets but they are just not ethical hunting bullets. It's not worth risking a trophy animal just to get a higher BC.

I have killed bear, caribou, mule deer and whitetail deer with this bullet. I shot the bear at 670 yards, the mule deer at 540 and the others where 100 to 150 yards. They all dropped in there tracks. Very accurate bullet out to 1000 yards.

I achieved the best accuracy with these bullets in my 25 yr old 7mm model 700. Last winter I bedded the gun and paired it with a vortex viper long range. It shoots groups at 100 down to .3" off the bench, and 1/2 moa out to 1000 yards. I'm shooting them just under 2900. Not only do these fly great but have awesome knock down power. I don't personally rifle hunt, but I took a 14yr old out on his first mule deer hunt. The last night just before dark I ranged a buck at 492yds. Clicked up 8 minutes and after settling in he squeezed off and dropped the buck like a rock. The bullet did pass through and left a fist size exit.

I have used these bullets for a few years now with great success on paper and in the field (280 AI). I shot a mule deer from about 60 yards quartering away and it left a baseball size exit wound. I also took a spike elk from 760 yards also slightly quartering away and he didnt take a 2nd step. the bullet entered just behind the liver and there was no exit wound. great bullet with awesome performance.

Accurate bullet, but ...

Accurate bullet, but damages way too much meat, lead and copper shrapnel everywhere. Heart lung shots on 2 hogs meant throwing away a lot of shoulder and ribs. I guess if just trophy hunting then it would be okay. I have used Barnes tripleshock for years with clean solid punch thru kills with lots of blood to track, non getting away. More for the "Pulehu grill".Aloha:)

I use these in my Remington 700 custom with a #7 26" 1-9" twist Douglas barrel. I was recently able to put 6 shots in a perfectly centered 2.5" (half m.o.a.) group right around the bull on my steel target at 500 yards. That is more than accurate enough for me. The box states 1-10" twist OR FASTER. Maybe faster is better in some cases?

I don't know how these ...

I don't know how these bullets will perform on an animal, however, I can tell you how they shoot out of my Browning X Bolt 7mm magnum with a 26" barrel - one word, WOW! After some adjustments to distance from lands, I settled on an .030 jump. The accuracy was simply amazing; further, the bullets were launched with over 3000 fps with a stiff load of R25 and Norma brass.

This is an excellent ...

This is an excellent bullet and delivers devastating results. I recently used them on a New Mexico Elk hunt. They are accurate and deadly out of my 7MM Rem Mag. The reloading data is scarce, but Berger is very helpful. I like them better than the partitions.

I shot a 4X5 Blacktail ...

I shot a 4X5 Blacktail buck at 200 yards and dropped him in his tracks. This season we have harvested a black bear at 346 yards, 6X6 bull elk at 440 yards, this bullet is the best I have ever loaded.Thanks Berger

Great bullets! I shot a ...

Great bullets! I shot a bull elk last year at 75 yards, went about ten yards. I was with a friend last year when he shot a mule deer at 625 yards, dropped it in its tracks. Was with a another friend on a bull elk hunt this year, he shot a bull at 350 yards, it also dropped in its tracks. So far, these bullets have been very impressive.

I've been running these ...

I've been running these bullets for 2 years now in a 7 Rem Mag trying to get a good feel for performance - both for ballistics and getting enough on-game performance. I really struggled with a rating on these, but think I'm going to switch. Accuracy is phenominal, no doubt about that. I exchanged several emails with Berger regarding load development and found them to be very helpful. Using their help, I achieved best accuracy at .120 off the lands - awesome because magazine functionality is retained. I tested these bullets for drift and elevation to 800 yards and I haven't found anything better. I struggle with the rating (2 stars - fair) because for all of its accuracy, I haven't had the on-game performance I was hoping to see. I've had 2 deer drop at the shot, the remaining 12 deer have all run 20-50 yards. Not so bad, but when you couple running deer with a $45/box tag... well... maybe dialing in an extra minute of elevation so I can run Hornadys isn't so bad. When you go thru 3-4 boxes every couple weeks, these Bergers start adding up cost-wise. I don't regret running these at all, and think accuracy is superb, I just can't reconcile the cost with the on-game performance and quantity of shooting.
