I purchased this spring ...

I purchased this spring to replace the factory original in my early '70s Colt MK/IV Series 70 Gold Cup National Match in .45 ACP. I always felt the factory spring was too light even for light loads. Colt would not tell me anything about the original spring so I decided to experiment with heavier springs. The factory original measured 5.125" in length and the 13 lb. spring measures 5.75". Both are 4 thousandths of an inch wire diameter. The slightly heavier spring reduces the frame-to-slide shock and makes the gun much more pleasant to shoot. It will now handle moderate loads with comfort. I also elected to use a one-piece full length guide rod with a shock buffer (Wilson Combat). However the spring works well with the shorter factory original guide rod too. These modifications make the gun much more enjoyable to shoot. It has always been a very accurate piece and still is. It was designed for light target loads and this spring handles light to moderate loads perfectly. I don't shoot full power loads in this piece, but would probably use something in the order of an 18lb. spring if I were to do so.
