My WASR came with the forend already installed and was one of the things that made me buy it in the first place.Burning lots of ammo in an AK WILL get your forend hot (read smoking!) with normal wood types. The Galil style has ample clearance and air circulation so no problems with holding it when the barrel is really hot.I didn't give it 5 stars only because it fit pretty loose on my rifle. Needed to fill in between forend and receiver with high-temp epoxy to eliminate the fore & aft play. Yes, it WAS functional as was, but it makes me nuts when the forend moves around too much. Even with that caveat, it is a good addition to stock AK's for sure.

I purchased this to make my Saiga look more like an AK-47. I am pleased with the look however it is not sturdier than the original even though it claims to be. It is very shaky and trust me I installed it correctly. The front clamp does not attach securely to the handguard. It simply falls off if you apply a little pressure to it. The instructions do not show you anything in detail and the product basically has a poor design. So in conclusion I'd give it 4 stars for look and a 1 star for functionality and design due to the front clamp and because of the fact that the manufacturer claims that it fits tighter and more securely than the original and trust me it does not. I mean if you're one of those guys who leave your gun in a closet and only care about how "cool" it looks then this is for you but for serious shooters who put lots of rounds through your weapon and give it a beating now and then this it not for us.

While this hand guard is ...

While this hand guard is sturdy, and looks good too, the material it is made out of seems a bit questionable to me. I know it is on an AK, and that Ak's get very hot fast, but when you fire only 30 rounds and your hand guard starts smoking you know you might have a bit of a problem. A simple heat shield would fix the problem, but I personally opted for a full replacement. I chose a UTG aluminum quad rail and couldnt be any happier with my decision.

I bought and installed ...

I bought and installed one onto an Interarms Tantal (Polish stamped AK-74). Any lower hand guard for stamped AKs will fit the Tantal, but the Tantal upper hand guard is unique, and nobody makes replacement Tantal upper hand guards. The Tapco is a lower and upper hand guard in one, so perfect solution for me. A plastic grille at the top of the hand guard can be removed to clean the gas tube by flexing the sides of the hand guard. That top cover grille is a little bit flimsy, and that's really my only complaint. The front end of the hand guard had to be modified to fit the front Tantal hand guard retainer (note the tabs INSIDE the retainer, facing toward the rear, and notch the front of the hand guard to fit around the tabs). The rear lug of the hand guard had to be filed a little to get the hand guard to fit, but I now have a rock-solid hand guard fit. Hand guard seems to do a good job of keeping the heat away from my support hand, even after 5 30-round magazines. So 4 stars for good fit, function, and okay looks, but I had to take off one star for the flimsy top cover that I'll have to be careful not to break.

I only gave this 3 stars seeing it took more then a little modifying to get it installed. If you don't have a dremel tool you may want to invest in one before getting this hand guard. Once it is in stalled it has a good feel and locked into place just fine with no shake in the hand guard at all.

I really like the ...

I really like the handguard on my Galil rifle so I thought I'd try a Tapco Galil-style handguard on my Romanian AK. I was unable to get it to fit tightly and not wobble around. The general quality is not what I'd call top of the line either, nowhere near the quality of the Arsenal Inc. handguard which is very nice and fits snug, but does cost more.

Quality of the product is ...

Quality of the product is good and it probably fits other romainian makes well but it would not fit my CIA GP1975 even after an hour of work trying to shape it to the gun. This is becoming a reoccuring theme with the GP1975; stocks, grips, and gas tube furniture always fit fine but there just isn't any lower handguard that even comes close to fitting this model.

I installed this foregrip ...

I installed this foregrip on a Norinco NHM-91. I had to use a dremel tool and a file around the rear of the grip to get it to fit, but each AK has different measurements and this sort of modification should probably be expected for most AK furniture. The grip fits nice and tight on my rifle now. It is very comfortable to hold and allows for much more air circulation than the original grip. Five stars!
