I gave it four stars instead of 5 because it's not original material. Basically, it's a compilation of information from a variety of OTHER sources. Having said that, you should keep in mind that a SERIOUS reloader will collect a veritable library of information from every source he encounters. These books are perfectly useful little collections that are specific to each load and they cover that information from multiple sources; unlike the more traditional loadbooks that are limited to the brand name products of the company that published the book.If you want the absolute latest loads, you're going to need to spend more than six dollars to get them. You'll also want to consider a subscription to a place like www.loaddata.com, since only online sources can truly keep up with the latest information.But remember... Load information doesn't expire. Loads that worked 5, 10 or 20 years ago (or more) will still work today.

The load books are ...

The load books are excellent sources of LOAD INFORMATION!!! What they have done is take all the pertinent data for a single caliber from multiple sources (the 30-30 book cites Lyman, IMR, Sierra, Speer, Hornady, Winchester, Hogdon, Alliant, Nosler, Scott and IMI publications)and put it in one place. The advantage of this is that you can quickly cross reference Loads, to check the safety of possible substitutions, or to verify recommended charges for some less common powders. You may be surprised at some of the differences between recommendations for bullets having identical weights. There are a few points to note. There is no general information on loading practices: this is not a "how-to" book. Likewise, some of the information is a little bit dated and a few of the newest components aren't covered.Also, the loadbooks themselves are not of the highest quality. Mine is a little ratty despite not having all that much use.However, If you reload for a gun that is chambered in one of the calibers covered by a Loadbook, you should get the Book that covers that cartridge. They are too cheap not to buy. Unless, of course, you already have all the latest manuals from the afore-mentioned manufacturers. Even then, you may find it more convenient to go to one pamphlet rather than 10 or 12.

I ordered this book , ...

I ordered this book , hoping to gain some guidance on the newer bullets available for .30 cal./30-30 It has no new loads whatsoever, only a collection of ancient loads for the 30-30 bulldozer bullets used for the tube mag carbines. I have a bolt act. box mag Stevens, and wanted more specific load data, especially Minimum overall C.O.L , Bullet seating depth (Pressure)is very important, and all bullet designs differ in this area. I will be asking to return this book for a refund~ You can( and I already have) more data free over the net and from the powder/ bullet companies! the book sent was Copyright 2004, and I know the Hornady .308 SST is older than that. Follow-up: My request to return the book was refused ( I can understand that, but the book is not only lacking info, but is also so badly printed ( COPY'd) that is UNREADable in a lot of pages~ DO NOT buy it!!!

The info in the book is good but limited. Has no info on all the new bullets and powders developed after 2000.
