I recently bought one of these to go on my Savage 10 Precision Carbine. I wanted an aluminum base due to weight, and I have used EGW 1911 products and a base for my Savage Mark II with good results, so I ordered one of these. The short story, it didn't fit. I had read the reviews here where a couple people had problems, but since I had always liked EGW products, I bought the base anyway. The problem was that the distance between the front and rear holes was too long, by at least .008" according to my calipers. Some careful work with a needle file moved the holes over and then everything worked, but a scope base is a "no-gunsmithing" part and I've never had a problem with any base when used on a Savage rifle until now. On the plus side, the machine work was very good, the base matched the contour of the receiver very well, and it really is at a 20-moa angle. But that's all of no use when the part doesn't fit the rifle. Unless EGW changes the specs they use to make these bases, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Read other reviews but mine worked out great, all holes lined up perfect and I am shooting .25" groups at 200 with my 308 Savage so it must be sturdy too !

I had to try two of these ...

I had to try two of these and both where machined with the holes misaligned, egw blamed the rifle but I am a machinist and measured my receiver on an optical comparator and it's dead on, the mount was almost .075 off. I couldn't get the first to even start to screw on and on the second the holes where far enough off to make the mount bow and twist. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

The machine work was obviously poor. Scope had no more adjustment after sighting in. The rail was flat until it was mounted to the receiver.

This rail fit my Savage action perfectly. Fit and finish are excellent. I used this rail with medium height Burris XTR scope rings to mount a Nikon Monarch 4-16x 42MM objective.

I had a machinist and a gunsmith look at it, I thought it was defective because the screws wouldn't fit right to attach it to the gun. Apparently it was the gun! The machinist and the gunsmith both said it was a very well made peice. They were both suprised how well made it was. Which said a lot coming from those two. Ya, unfortunately I can't say so much for the work of the gun manufacturer in drilling their holes!

The EGW rail fit my Savage target action very well, my only complaint would be that they provide better attachment screws, I had to replace due to the torx head stripping out very easily.
