the GoldenRod GunSaver Dehumidifier is designed to handle humidity from the interior of your safe, locker or cabinet and protects against rust by generating a low level of heat that removes moisture from the air. Comes with mounting brackets for easy installation. All GoldenRod GunSafe Dehumidifiers come with a detachable plug for easier mounting. This model features a six foot power cord and must be mounted horizontally at the bottom of an enclosure to work properly. UL listed. Limited lifetime warranty.

Originally purchased silica gel canister to keep gun safe dry, but crystals would require drying in oven after only 3 days. Installed Golden Rod three weeks ago and the crystals have yet to require any drying. Installation was relatively simple, although supplied mounting screws are for thin sheet metal and will not work in thicker metal. I used aircraft safety wire to secure mounting brackets and it worked very well. Plug detaches in less than two seconds without tools to allow passing wire through side of safe in hole much smaller than plug would require. I would highly recommend the product.

I have had 3 of these units installed for about 8 months now. The upstairs 6.6 cu. ft. safe never was a problem; just put one in for good measure. The basement safe however is just the opposite. Prior to the installation I had problems with mildew on the wood and plastic stocks plus a little rust on the metal if I wasnt vigilant. The safe has two compartments. The 3.6 cu. ft. section has the rod mounted vertically do to insufficient space and contrary to the instructions but has been problem free. The 6.25 cu. ft. section has the rod mounted per instructions and is still having mildew problems on the plastic stocks only. It does wipe right off with no damage. The wood and metal have been clean so far. I dont have anything to measure the humidity with but when its advertised to protect 100 cu. ft. I think I shouldnt be having any problems at all. Maybe I will upgrade to a higher wattage unit at a later date.

I have used this unit for over a year and it has been great. Easy install and sufficient for use as labeled. I would recommend this as I have had a flawless unit and a dehumidified safe at home!

If you raise the temperature in the safe, the relative humidity goes down. This unit does that. Instead of sizing the unit by cubic feet of coverage, the buyer should heed the advice printed on the package: select the longest unit that will fit across the bottom of the safe, since you cannot over-dry an area with the GunSaver.

Bought this item to keep the inside of my safe dry. The safe is in the basement. The safe is well under 200 cubic ft. Humidity was 70%-75% prior to the rod. Now it is about 65%. It works, but do not expect huge drops in humidity if it is in the basement. I hope it is enough.

I bought two of these back in 2003. They are still working great. I am now buying a third one for my new gun safe. I have two safes chock full and never found a speck of rust on anything as long as I do my part and clean and oil before putting anything in the safe.
