Good Float tube and it does a good job of shielding the heat, but it's a rough install. It's virtually impossible to insert the gas tube in the upper with the float tube in place. You have to loosen the float tube, insert the gas tube, then thread on the float tube.Looks cool though!

Very comfortable to hold and no heat from barrel transferred like some metal tubes. Hated it because there is no way to mount a stud for a sling. You have to drill through the rubber and metal and lock tight a nut on the other side. You would have to remove the tube to do this. Try getting it back on since there is very little clearance between the hand guard and the gas tube. Took mine off and put on a Yankee Hill. The Hogue is fine if you don't want a sling or bipod.

Handguard installed ...

Handguard installed easily with a big strap wrench. No gas tube troubles. Rifle shoots and feels fantastic. Much better than cheap plastic handguard. About to order another one !

First I wish to apologize ...

First I wish to apologize to all the naysayers out there, this is truly one great fore end. You do not need a barrel nut the hand-guard is fully complete. I installed it on a new build, Yankee Hill Upper, E. R Shaw 24 bull barrel SS with target crown w/steel gas block, rifle length DPMS gas tube, everything went together like a fine watch. The specific instructions for those that can read, say to tighten barrel nut to the upper action, and then tighten to clear next gas tube hole. A strap wrench can be purchased from Harbor Freight for less then $5.00, use the KNS Front Sling Swivel Mount Stud Steel Parkerized, part # 111378, all the bi-pods that use sling stud mounts will love it, a hole is such a small price for a great fore end, why would the factory put hole where it won't line up, do it your self and stop whining.

Good tube, looks great ...

Good tube, looks great and functions well. I installed a low profile gas block and had no issues with the tube. Did not have to bend it. You will need a strap wrench. had some difficulty getting the gas tube hole lined up properly, but elbow grease and a strap wrench did the trick. Gun shoots very well now.

Nice handguard, but just ...

Nice handguard, but just a couple of comments. You need a strap wrench to install this. If you have a tool that fits into the gas tube holes on the barrel nut, be aware that it won't fit this. Likely you will need it to take the old barrel nut off, but not to put the new one on. The second thing to know is that you have to 're-profile' your gas tube to fit under the handguard and still free float the barrel. If you have a bull barrel, I think it's impossible. I do have a DPMS bull 16" barrel and after an afternoon of struggling, it is still touching the handguard. Re-profiling the gas tube means bending it. I didn't have a spare so was very concerned about crushing or 'kinking' the only one I had. You might want to have a spare on hand.. Haven't shot the gun yet. This is just a review of fitting it.

These fit well, feel nice ...

These fit well, feel nice and look great. They are more difficult to install since the handgard tube is thicker where it is overmolded. Per Hogue's instructions, you will be expected to re-bend your gas tube, so be prepared to do that.

I really like the way ...

I really like the way this forend looks and it feels great - very comfortable and steady grip surface. However, the clearance between the barrel nut section and the handguard section is insufficient for the gas tube. The gas tube goes through one of numerous holes in the barrel nut section, which is threaded to receive the handguard section. Fitting the handguard section onto the threads and screwing it on is difficult to impossible because the gap between the holes that the gas tube goes in and the inside of the handguard is smaller than or exactly the same as the thickness of the gas tube. So the inside of the handguard contacts the gas tube and will not thread onto the barrel nut section's threads correctly. I got it on once and only somewhat stripped the aluminum threads and used it with no problems for several months, but recently I had to remove it again and the second time I tried to thread it back on, the threads stripped completely and the forend is now unusable. It is really too bad because I did like it a lot, but am now shopping for a new forend for my AR that is presently out of commission because of the poor design and fit of this product. I suggest you keep looking...

This is a great free ...

This is a great free float forearm. Installs easily if you have a barrel wrench and a strap wrench to install the hogue. Only complaint is that there is no sling swivel for a bipod/sling. I had to drill a hole and install my own.
