Comments about Story Barrel Band Ruger 10/22 Steel Blue:

At 1st glance the band appeared to be exactly like the original metal band from my circa late '70's 10/22 and the metal itself appeared to be good quality. The problem came after I had slid the band onto the stock, which itself was not easy. It was readily apparent that the bolt would be too short (anywhere from 3/8" - 5/8") to span the gap at the ends of the band. Midway's product page says some minor fitting may be required and the band "replicates" the original. The only way to "fit" the band would seem to be removing too much wood from the stock in order to make the stock narrower thus closing the gap. Doing so would expose the edges of the larger portion of the stock where the gun's original band was seated. Such exposure would lead to these edges being easily chipped or damaged. In my opinion it also does not replicate the original as the original bolt for the bad is much longer and also narrower than the bolt accompanying the Story version.
