This is a gas check ...

This is a gas check bullet design. If you install Hornady gas checks on the base of this bullet and size them at .001 to .002 over the groove dia. of your rifle they are capable of some very fine accuracy. I shoot these bullets out in a couple of Winchester 94s' in 30/30 and have shot 1" groups at 100yds. and 3" groups at 200yds. with tang sights. I've had good luck loading this cast bullet with a gas check installed and sized at .309 which is .001 over groove dia., Hodgdon-4198, Rem 9 1/2 Reg. primer, and keeping the velocity between 1500-1700 fps. I've had no problem with leading in the bores after getting the bores broken in with either of these 30/30s'. Lots of fun. Very pleasant to shoot.

I bought these and tried ...

I bought these and tried them in my .30-40 and '06. Neither gun could group them under 6-8" at 100 yards, even after I added gas checks. I'm still trying to get them to shoot but after three tests, not much luck yet. For the price, I should have bought a Lee lead pot and a Lee mold, it would have been cheaper and not near as frustrating. Not Midways fault, they came promptly and were just as described.

I use this bullet in my ...

I use this bullet in my chicken load with (manufacture suggested) of Trail Boss powder in a Marlin XLR 30-30. I throw the charges with a Little Dandy RCBS powder measure. They group into one inch at 50 meters and always take the target with a full bullet strike. They do not lead the bore and if I have other relays later in the match with jacketed bullets no discernible accuracy loss occurs.

I'll start off by saying that this bullet is that it is uniform and well made. I loaded these for my 30-30 over Unique and Winchester brass. I bought these just for plinking. Accuracy was good. My only complaint is that after firing 50 round cleaning the barrel took about 2 hours. I was pulling long lead slivers from the bore. The bullet even though stated on the box as for 30-30 its diameter is actually .310 Like I said the bullets are uniform and well made, but now I will have to try to size them to .309.

I bought the .309 dia ...

I bought the .309 dia 170gr FN cast bullets. They were just what they pictured. Good uniformity. I did a test series in my 30-06 and one load gave me groups about 2.6" at 100 yd.s. This is entirely adequate for practice or small game 50 yd.s out or less. I would like to point out this is my first test. More testing might reveal a better load. These bullets are set up for gas checks. The addition of gas checks would allow more speed. More testing is in order.
