Product Information

SUPERFORMANCE ammunition is loaded with proprietary propellants that increase the velocity ratings up to 200 feet per second compared to other popular brands. Because there is no increase in pressure, regardless of the caliber, there is no increase in felt recoil but there IS an increase in efficiency and high speed performance. Bought a Remington 700 SPS Light Tactical. Rifle has a 20" barrel, with a 1-10 twist. Glass is a Burris 6.5-20x50 FFII Tactical. And so begins the pursuit for the perfect pill. I literally fired 2 dozen or so different brands and weights of ammunition. My conclusion is straight forward and very obvious. This rifle prefers heavier bullets first of all. All ammo with a 168 grain bullet or heavier performed with sub-MOA results. BUT the Hornady 178 grain out shined them all. Half MOA was the norm at all distances up to 400 yards. The furthest I shot was 600 yards and every round hit in a pie plate even at that distance. This is an exceptional coyote round as well. I wouldn't deer hunt with it, but a 10 ring shot on a coyote at any distance is lights out. No pressure issues at all and I was clocking rounds at 2690fps. This is by far the best match bullet/round I have found on the market to date. I have spent a lot of money on .308 premium ammunition so please take my word for it. If your rifle is turning a 1-10 twist, do yourself a favor and just try this ammo. Fantastic BC, good SD and a great price for what youre getting. This and one other round is all I buy. Most SPS Tacticals are a 1-12 twist, not 1-10. So a 168 may be better for your 1-12 rifle. Do your own testing and spend the money. But don't leave this wonderful bullet out of the mix. You will be very sorry you did in the end.

I bought about 200 rounds of this ammo and I shot it though my savage 10 ba .308. It didn't take very long until the rounds wouldnt exect anymore. They had so much power that the ejector pin was forced back into the bolt and had to be sent back to the manufacturer to be rebuilt. Do your research before buying this ammo to make sure your gun will handle it.

Great ammo for those that don't handload. I dialed 22.5 MOA to hit @ 850 yards vs 24.5 MOA with the non superformance load. Without chrono it is obviously moving faster. Does good in the wind as well, I'm very impressed with the 178 grain design by Hornady. One of the best factory loads I've found, I'd recommend trying it in your bolt gun.

Hornady Superformance ...

Hornady Superformance .308 178 grain BTHP ammo is capable of sub MOA groups. My best 3 shot 100 yard group was .22" ctc out of a Rem 700 SS 5R 20" barrel w/ 11.25" twist.

This ammunition is like ...

This ammunition is like any other Match grade ammunition, some rifles will like it, some will not. Shot really well for me. I shot sub 1/2" @ 100 yds with the 178 gr Hornady, as I also do with BH 175 gr BTHP. The amazing thing, with the higher velocity Hornady, was the elevation difference at 1000 yds. I was dead on with the BH's and then shot the Superformance and shot over the target about 10 feet. (based on dust kick over the target)

I used this ammo for a ...

I used this ammo for a sniper competition against 3 SWAT sniper teams. I used a Remington M700 VSS and a 6x24x50 scope. The only thing that has been done to the rifle is a self preformed bedding and trigger adjusted to 2.5 lbs. At 500 yards I produced 5, 5 round groups with the largest one being only 1.5 inches. I had a full value 8mph wind so that might have hurt me a bit. I am ready to step this round out to 1000 and it is completely capable. It is pushing 2810fps through a 26" barrel and shooting less than 1/3MOA out to 500yds. This bullet is a performer!!!!!

Rated poor for my ...

Rated poor for my purposes. Yours may be different. I hand load my ammo, but bought 20 of these 308 Win 178gr as a possible backup. I COULD NOT have been more disappointed. For the test I shot (at 100 yds) 10 rounds of my hand loads alternated with 10 rounds of the Hornady Superformance. My 10 rounds could be covered with a dime. The Hornady would have taken something longer than a $1.00 bill and most of the dispersion was vertical. It was about 5-6 MOA in the vertical and 1-2 MOA in the horizontal.With the Hornady, you're pretty much stock with the C.O.L. It has to be able to fit magazines and therefore can't extend close to the lands of most bolt rifles. It would probably be ok for an M1a or a .308 black rifle hybrid... but putting "match" on the box is a bit much.

I shoot a Remington VTR ...

I shoot a Remington VTR with 5R rifling and at 100 yards it shoots an inverted L shape by about an 1"1/2. I haven't tried it at 200 yet, but when I get the chance ill try it and review it again. I gave it 3 stars because its consistent and if it tightens up past 100 it will be a great product.

This is the best out of ...

This is the best out of the box ammo I have shot. it is fast and right on the target. It is almost as good as my reloads, there is no other factory ammo that can come close to it. The 25-06 is just as good. I have been shooting for 45years, and reloading for 40 years and this ammo is the best I have used out of the box.

I own 2 Remington 700 ...

I own 2 Remington 700 .308's. One is a 20" barrel with a 1-10" twist. Absolutely loves the 178 gr. Superperformance HPBT ammo. To the tune of .460 groups at a 100 yards. This ammo will shoot an inch in my 26" 1-12 twist in my 700 VS SF as well. But the faster twist in the Light Tactical 20" does better. No surprise there. I have killed numerous coyotes with this ammo out to 400 yards with great results. Shot a hog at 140 yards last week and it didn't go 15 yards. This ammo is NOT recommended for hunting big game, but for varmint work and the occasional small hog, it will most certainly do the job if you do yours and put the bullet In the RIGHT spot. And putting it in the "RIGHT" spot is what this ammo is all about! Now if only Hornady would load their 208gr bullet in this line...

I got around 2560 fps ...

I got around 2560 fps with my 18" SASS. Hornady cautions against using their Superformance ammo with less than a 20" gas gun, but I didn't seem to have any cycling issues. Out of 20 rounds, I didn't have any FTF or feed/extract problems. My short barrel usually shoots 75-125 fps slower, but 2560 is quite a bit lower than rated. Accuracy is dependent on many factors, but I was getting just over 2" (5-shot extreme spread) at 100 - a little less accurate than most other premium factory ammo that I have tried. If you have a bolt gun, or a longer barrel, I guess this would serve as "big brother" version of the Palma loads. If you gun can get full velocity out of it, this round should be good out to 1200 yards - give or take. Oh, there were no signs of over-pressurization on the fired cases, but I did notice slightly more recoil than other "standard" 175gr rounds.
