This was a great balance for the price. It is very accurate and did a good job. I read some of the reviews after I had bought mine and I was a little leary. Once I started, however, those fears were quickly gone. People need to remember that this is a very sensitive scientific instrument. Its accuracy is around 6 mg (0.006 grams). I am a chemist and I have worked with analytic balances for more than 20 years. Any slight movement of the table, changes in temperature or humidity or air currents WILL affect its performance (and any other balance). Labs will actually place their balances in a separate room on a solid marble table (weighing hundreds of pounds) which is placed on a thich rubber mat to stop all vibrations. I calibrated mine then, having read the reviews, placed a 60 grain bullet on it. It was right on. I left it there while I set up, resized, primed, etc and it never moved. It also held its zero very well. I would recheck its calibration about every five loads with the same bullet and it was always right on. I am VERY happy with this product and would highly recommend it to anyone. Just remember that you ar weighing down to 0.1 grain and that sensitivity requires a bit of care. Do not touch the table while weighing and keep all heat/humidity fluctuations and wind currents down to a minimum and you should have no problems.

This scale is too sensitive to be useful. I used it at my local range to test some loads, and got inconsistent results. I went home and tested it against my beam scale (RCBS 505) and found that it usually measures approx .3gr more. It also contradicts itself, i.e., I can measure out 94gr, lift the powder pan off the scale and set it back down and get a different reading, usually by .1 or .2 gr. (This is allowing for the few seconds necessary wait time for the reading to settle down--which it never really seems to do. Just when you think it's settled, it changes again). The instructions recommend that the "zero" button be pressed approx every ten loads to maintain zero, but I found that the zero shifted so often and the readings so erratic I found myself pressing the "rezero" button every load. Sometimes it seemed to "stick"--while using the trickler, there would be no change in the reading, then the reading would suddenly jump up past where I wanted to go. As with my beam scale, it is very sensitive to the slightest draft so I had to go into my truck cab to use it at the range. (The instructions do advise that the scale "be positioned away from any source of drafts, air currents, or temperature changes." The instructions even recommend that "...the scale should also be positioned away from a reloading bench equipped with a reloading press" because the vibrations can be transferred to the scale and, presumably, affect the reading. (That made me wonder if I was adversely affecting my readings when getting in and out of my truck cab at the range). Also, "For the first use, it is recommended that the scale be allowed to stabilize to its surroundings for 24 hours."Temperatures at the range were in the mid-40's, in my shop approx 60 degrees, perhaps it needs warmer temps to work properly. This is the first electronic scale I've tried, so I don't know it they're all this finicky. But the bottom line is that I can't trust it, and so will stick with my RCBS 505.

Had every problem stated in other reviews. Used scale for 3 months and it never worked great. Does not have the consistency as required for handloading match grade ammunition. Only positive the looks and dust cover. Looks like its built to last for a while. Well now it won't do anything after less than 500 rounds . Hopefully the one Lyman sends back will be better, Hope it actually works like it should. Since I cannot return will keep as a back up and use for plinking rounds of minimum to medium charge weight. Will never use for rounds I develop for sub moa accuracy where I need consistency. Someone should send Lyman a copy of the negative comments, maybe they will as they should take a look at this potentially unsafe product. Always check your loads. After having extraction problems I began checking every load and noticed lot of my loads weighed exceeded the recommended max which is not safe. Spend your money wisely buy RCBS.

This scale works, and works well but I too was very frustrated with it at first. I was having no end of trouble getting a stable readings of smaller powder charges (4-5 grain range). The reading would bounce around from, say, 4.0 to 4.3 to 3.9 to 3.8 to 4.2 and on and on. I was ready to pull my hair out. If this sounds like the trouble youre having with this scale, the solution I came across is this: Place a quarter on the scales platen (the silver platform under the pan) and re-zero the scale. Now, while leaving the quarter in place, get on with weighing charges using the pan like normal, the pan will just sit on top of the quarter. I think this scale is so sensitive that smaller charges of powder can be difficult to get solid readings on; adding weight to the platen and then re-zeroing solved this problem for me immediately. It also helps to wait ten seconds after pressing the re-zero button to weigh a charge but the quarter trick really did it for me. No more frustration and I get quick, consistent readings.

I've used this scale for approximately two years now. It's always been a little unreliable; usually I would end up re-calibrating it once or twice while setting up my powder measure to try to get a consistent measurement. For the cost, I'm really disappointed. I'm going back to the balance beam type scales.

Stay away, it worked great, for a while. Now it won't do anything. Hopefully the one that Lyman sends back will be better, and if it actually works more than a couple of times I will revise my post.

This scale is just plain not trustworthy. The zero floats, the scale is very temperature sensitive. The scale yields different readings from day to day all other things being held constant.

I had trouble with this scale from day one. The weight displayed would simply not settle down, regardless of how long I waited. Trying to throw charges of 5.0 grains of Winchester 231 resulted in readings as low as 4.7 grains and as high as 6.0 grains over a period of two minutes. The scale was recalibrated and/or re-zeroed numerous times but with no noticeable improvement. The really odd thing is, if using the 20 gram calibration weight, I could get solid, consistent readings within just a few seconds. Using a 225 grain bullet, I could get solid, consistent readings within a few seconds as well. Just as soon as I switched to lighter weights, like powder charges for .45 ACP loads, everything went funky again. In my opinion this is absolutely unacceptable performance. The scale has been returned to Lyman at their request. Im willing to give it one more chance when I get it back from Lyman before giving up on it and simply buying a different scale. And I, for one, am NOT willing to perform some oddball ritual (Windex, dryer sheets, whatever) in order to get accurate and consistent readings out of something as simple as an electronic scale.

I used a Lyman beam balance with magnetic damper for over 40 years. It is a great scale. It is totally accurate and consistent. I got the hots for a new 'gadget' and bought this scale. Biggest mistake I ever made in reloading equipment. This thing sucks batteries like popsicles. A new alkaline battery will last about a week. That translates to 200 to 300 weighings. It is accurate but not repeatable. It will NOT hold zero. It is necessary to re-zero it about every fourth weighing. With this scale, it takes literally four times longer to load 50 carefully weighed charges than with the beam balance. I have not used any other electronic scales but I sure recommend you do not waste your money on this thing. Get a balance beam from a reputable manufacturer with a magnetic damper.

Was disappointed when I first tried to use this product. Decided to give it a second chance. After playing with it a while I noticed the unit seemed to be very sensitive to static electricity. I went and got a can of Static Guard. I closed the clear plastic lid on the unit, gave it two quick shots with the static Guard and presto it works like a champ. Holds zero and repeats very well. Now I am a happy camper.

POOR PRODUCT - don't buy. ...

POOR PRODUCT - don't buy. I got the first one as a gift from a friend. It would not hold zero or repeat. The readings would vary + -.25g (range of .5g).Sent it back to the factory and the replacement was just as bad.Discussed the problem with my pal and the one he had was doing the same.All went back and RCBS scales were ordered as replacements.
