Product Information

Hornady TAP ammunition is a good choice for personal defense, and is used extensively by law enforcement agencies. This due in part to the fact that the propellants used in the loading of this ammunition were engineered to minimize muzzle flash. This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer primed, reloadable brass cases.

Special Note from Hornady Manufacturing:

We are making a running change to the TAP ammunition. This includes changing from Blackened Nickel Cases to Bright Silver Nickel cases. Using the Silver Nickel cases has all the advantages of Blackened Nickel and the added benefit of being able to see the cartridges more clearly in low light conditions as well as when checking for loaded chambers.

Penetrated and fragmented

I tracked a herd of Mouflon (Hawaiian Big Horn Sheep) for a couple of miles on Mauna Kea and finally caught up with them in a seam between to ridges at about 9000 ft. With the wind blowing directly from me to them, I knew I didn't have have much time. I spotted the only ram that I had a clear view of, then I wrapped the sling of my M&P 15 around my left arm and took an off hand shot from 75 yards. The bullet punched through the right shoulder, though a right rib, the lung cavity, cut the aorta, through a left rib, into the left shoulder and pretty much disapeared. It dropped the 160 lb ram like 3rd period French. I'm rating 4 stars because the bullet fragmented so much that there was almost no bullet to recover - just a buch of tiny little pieces that mayby added up to 25 grains. I understand it's not a hunting bullet, so yes, it would probably be great for self-defense.

Incredible ...

Incredible round...tightest grouping achieved to date...1/4" at 100yrd with only assistance from atlas bipod. Drops hogs just as well as a bullet twice its' size and energy. I know it's a personal defense load but will be used strictly for hunting in my DD AR.

Very accurate ammo! Fired from my Colt Le6940 1/7 twist. Hit steel plates all day at 200 and 300 yards. Most accurate ammo I have shot through this gun. Highly recommended!

Shot this ammo at the range today. Using DPMS Sportical Upper 1:9 twist barrel. Groups are close to 1 inch at 100 yards. No key holes or wild fliers. Want to try this round for medium size (whitetail) game.

I took my wife deer ...

I took my wife deer hunting for her first time over the weekend. She shoots a Pink Spikes Tactical AR. She shoot a 130 pound doe at 100 yards just and the deer dropped with in 5 yards with this TAP ammo. When we quartered the deer we found the bullet in a perfect mushroom. It entered in the sweet spot just behind the front leg, penetrated the other side and lodged just behind the skin leaving no exit wound. Very good ammo.

Shoots reliably and consistently through my Doublestar 16" AR15. I shot a 2-3" group at 50 yards using a red dot; which is as good as I can shoot. Good ammo for its purpose.
