Product Information

Nikon's Monarch VSD Red Dot Sight allows the shooter to decide what size of dot to use with a choice of 1, 4, 6, 8 or 10 MOA sized dots. The great part is that if one size is picked you can switch to another size because this is a variable size dot sight. The lenses are fully multi-coated and the sight is water, fog and shockproof. A rheostat allows for easy adjustment to any of the eleven brightness settings and the integrated weaver-style mount allows for simple mounting to a firearm of choice. All Nikon products include Nikon USA's full or limited warranty.

I carefully clamped this sight in a bench vise in my office basement the day it arrived. I sighted in on a small sticker at the other end of the basement, about 40 yards away. Starting with the smallest dot, I shifted to larger dots looking for a shift in point of aim. After several cycles up and down, I did not notice any shift from dot to dot. The image through the scope is crystal clear and there is no distortion of color like in some other dot scopes. Battery compartment is easily accessible on top of the scope and the elevation/windage adjustments are finger adjustable. Scope includes plastic bungee-corded covers for the lenses. Clear, waterproof, light weight, and point of impact won't shift when you change dot size = great value.

I purchased this scope for use on my S & W 500mag. After 10 rounds of light loads at the range, small particles that looked like a greasy packing came loose & stuck to the inside of the eye piece. Then the dot became intermittent. Sent this unit back to Midway & was promptly provided an exact replacement. Mounted this new unit to my pistol, went to the range today & had a repeat experience to the first scope only this time the electronics failed completely. I have had nothing but great experience from Nikon products in the past & I have no doubt this scope will perform fine on a lesser recoil pistol. But S & W 500 shooters beware. This scope will not stay together when mounted on these pistols.

Sight appears well built and light intensity and dot sizeadjustments work as advertised. Too bad Nikon skimped on quality control otherwise this sight would not have made it out of the factory. Turned on red dot and it has a grape cluster appearance instead of a single dot. Returned to MidwayUSA and currently waiting a replacement (backordered). Will try one more, if the next one is defective I will move on to another brand. I did not expect this on a Nikon product especially in this price range.

I tried two other red dots and was far from satisfied. Then I discovered this Monarch and boy am I happy. Not only is it fantastic at 100yd but I've fired some impressive groups at 300yd with my .223 AR-15. The different dot sizes and variable brightness control as just what these very old eyes needed.

This is a piece of trash. It will NOT hold up to recoil. I even called Nikon to verify that it was rated for magnum pistols. They said yes. Well, 3 factory replacement sights later ( I had to pay $110 for the last one because it was out of warranty) I've decided to cut my losses and find something reliable. Lousy product.

This was a bit of a disappointment. I used EOTech and Aimpoint (on an M4) and know good optics. I may have gotten a Monday morning or Friday afternoon product as the quality was not there. There was a LOT of ghosting around the ring and a weird reflection I cannot figure within the optic. This one is going back. I wanted it for my daughter but even she (a 7th grader) would not like this. I am going to make things easy - and get a EOTech 517 - she loves mine and now she will have one.

I'm getting ready to purchase my second Nikon Monarch VSD Red Dot Sight scope. The one I have is three years old and is still working perfectly, only I have two AR15's and Im getting tired of moving it back and forth. This is the only Red Dot that I can honestly say is a nail driver, many times I've been able to put a second round right behind the first one. Friends are amazed at the accuracy ( like Robin Hood splitting his first arrow ). And after all it is a "NIKON" product. If you want the thrill of a real nail driver, this is your Red Dot scope to do it with.

After using a few of the military EOTechs, I had an idea of what i did not like. This covered all of my bases. The Variable dots are just awesome. I typically leave it at two MOA. The Variable intensity works brilliantly and the controls are simple with turret covers to prevent unintentional adjustments. After a few thousand rounds and 6 months on my M&P 15, it has been reliable, holds zero and durable in the elements. I am going to try it on my AK for a bit to see if it will hold up there as well as it did on my AR.

I have owned my Nikon Monarch Red Dot for 2 years. This is the first red dot I trust. It's bright in the sunlight and holds zero. I have it on a Raging Bull in 480 Ruger. I have a garbage can full of the cheap red dots. It will save you money to just buy this one.

Have the earlier version of this sight that I have used for a few years. I have used on a S&W 357 and 44 MAG with excellent results. The quality is just like Nikon cameras. Appears it is made in the same factory. The adjustable dot size makes long range target shooting practical at 1 MOA dot size. Easily viewable in daylight, the 30mm tube gives a wide field of view. Holds adjustment even with the 44 MAG. You won't be disappointed.

Bought the Nikon about a ...

Bought the Nikon about a month ago. Mounted it on Stag AR15 and slowed fired for most of the time. I took it out last week and rapid fired a mag and noticed the red dot would dim and sometimes disappear when firing rounds but would reintensify when ceased firing.
