Product Information

In general, Gun Kote was developed mainly for use by the United States Navy Seals. After a series of tests, this thin hard coating was able to withstand over 500 hours of salt spray tests and still meet all military requirements. Today, Gun Kote is used in the shooting sports industry to help protect against corrosion and also to add a unique color to firearms.

The 2400 Series can withstand temperatures over 500 degrees F and as low as -320 degrees F. It can be applied to all ferrous and non-ferrous metals as well as plastic. It's also abrasion resistant and has extremely high heat dissipation. can also be used on magazines.

KG Gun Kote 2400 Series Instructions

Sandblast using 120 grit aluminum oxide at 40lbs of pressure

Degrease using KG-3 Solvent Degreaser (product 558855) and handle parts with gloves to avoid fingerprints and oil contamination

Apply K-Phos Pretreatment for best results (product 112848)

Preheat parts to be coated to about 120 degrees F.

Using a good quality airbrush or spray gun, make light passes 8 to 10 inches away from the part.

Spray four to five passes in different directions to gain complete coverage.

After allowing the coating to dry, bake the part for 1 hour at 325 degrees.

Cleans up with Acetone or MEK

This is a great product. ...

This is a great product. It sprays nicely. After it's baked it's hard as nails! The reviewer that had a problem with it drying glossy did not use enough nebulizing air. It will lay down glossy if you don't have enough air and it goes on too wet.

Excellent product. Tough ...

Excellent product. Tough as nails. The only reason I gave it a 3 star rating is because I ordered this to do my 10/22 with bullbarrel and wanted a flat black finish. After it was done, what I got was a Gloss black. It definitely is not a flat black. I have used Flat black finishes on guns alot, but this is definitely not a flat black. I even called and talked to the Gun-Kote company and inquired about it coming out as a glossy black. The represenative I talked to was dumbfounded and full of excuses and couldn't answer my question as to why their flat black came out as a glossy black. Other than that, it's a great product.

I work at a gun range, ...

I work at a gun range, Lock Stock & Barrel in Grantville GA. We use Gun Kote all the time. GK beats Powder Coat, and Dura Coat, hands down. Tough weather proof seal that goes on so thin nuts and bolts and slides go right together without cleaning. And, it comes in colors. You should see the young woman's .22 we did in pink after the bluing got a little rusty because it out in the rain. No more rusting.

I have used this stuff on ...

I have used this stuff on several gun finishing projects and have NEVER had a problem. This stuff is the toughest finish I have found. All other spray on finishes bubble off with strong solvents. Not this stuff. The only way to get it off is with a sandblaster. It would be a shame not to test it out on your toughest gun finishing projects, especially for this price. I think you will be happy with the results. Another benefit is how thin this stuff is. It makes it easy to coat bolt actions and not have to worry about fitting tolerances.
