Product Information

The bore polishing kit includes 100 polishing compound impregnated 22 Long Rifle cartridges (20 each of 5 progressively finer compounds). Polishing the bore results in reduced fouling due to less drag. Removes no more than .0003" of metal from the bore and includes a reusable plastic case. This is loaded ammunition.

I used these rounds on a new Ruger MkIII 5-1/2" Bull Barrel. Upon initial purchase of this gun, groups from a rest at 50' looked more like a shotgun pattern for a lack of a better description. There were very noticeable imperfections in the bore so I figured the kit had it's work cut out for it. I followed the instructions and thoroughly cleaned the pistol prior to the range session. The night before I watched TV. and used a tooth brush to remove the majority of the abrasive material from the case only.The following day I fired the rounds with the optional cleaning between batches. The rounds were loaded one at a time and I experienced no misfires or any other kind of malfunction. The gun was then disassembled and again given a detailed cleaning of all parts. The next day another range session was conducted from a solid pistol rest with standard factory sights and 9 different brands of ammo including both solids and hollow points. To make a long story short, groups shrank from 2-1/2" down to 1-1/4" for most and a mere 3/4" for two particular loads. I have several more different brands of ammo coming, so this test is still ongoing. While this may not be "tack driving" accuracy it surely attests to the fact that the Tubb Polishing System did make a difference.

The Tubb's Final Finish ...

The Tubb's Final Finish does polish the barrel well and slightly improves accuracy. Itmay work better in a new or dirty barrel, than a well maintained older barrel. The entire cartridge is covered in the polishing compound making chambering and ejecting spent rounds hard, I experienced six cartridge head blow outs, bring a rod to push out the brass. If you have a autoloading gun don't run these rounds thru your mag! Feed them manually one at a time and wipe the brass - I did this on the last 40 rounds and had no issues.

The Good, The Bad & The ...

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly. First the good, results we phenomenal cut a 1 group at 50 yards to one hole and that just cant be beat. Next the bad, the polishing compound is on the brass as well as the bullet which makes feeding near impossible, especially if youre trying this in a semi auto (like a 10/22). You'll need to feed one at a time and even then be prepared for a lot of manual manipulation. Now the Ugly, to get this ammo to work/feed at all; especially the first three , rougher compounds, I had to wipe each case being carefully not to wipe-off the bullet. Then I had to put a drop of oil on each case so it would feed into the chamber at all. Be prepared for a long range session if you wanna do this right. But on the upside, when all is said and done, the barrel shoots oh so much better.

You need to wipe the ...

You need to wipe the cases of excess compound. Shoot them in 3-5 shot groups, cleaning after and trying a 5 shot group with regular ammo to check for improvement. Once you stop noticing improvement, stop using them. It may take a few cycles to see improvement, but once you do it's noticeable. I also don't recommend it for high-end aftermarket barrels either. It is more for a factory tube with poor internal finish. I have used it in 4 factory barrels with excellent results on all. It WON'T make a 5MOA barrel a hummer, but it will improve upon what you have.

Polished the bore great, ...

Polished the bore great, Best to take a toothbrush and some kind of cleaning solution and wipe the brass clean. 1st and 2nd set worked OK but had 8 out of the 40 that blew the heads off and had to push the others out with a rod. The rest worked flawlessly, but I cleaned barrel after every 10rds during the last 60 rds, Other than that worked great.

This stuff does polish ...

This stuff does polish the barrel and does moderately improve accuracy, but the entire cartridge is covered in the polishing compound making chambering and ejecting spent rounds very hard, also increasing pressure I experience two cartridge head blow outs in my testing.

I have a borescope and ...

I have a borescope and look at the bore before and after and the Tubbs kit did polish the bore very well but I really didnt see any accuracy improvement, and also think that there is too much compound on the brass and that it really wore the chamber, but thats just my 2 cents worth

I purchased a dedicated ...

I purchased a dedicated .22LR AR upper that was quite expensive. Expecting great accuracy, I was shocked that this unit would not group better than 4-6 inches at 50 yds-with a scope. I have obtained this accuracy from standard conversion units. I checked the bore-dead nuts on .223. Wanting to avoid the hassle of trying to get my money back, I decided to try this system. IT WORKED!!!! After firing all the rounds this unit will now deliver 1.5 to 2 inches at 50 yds, with a lesser power scope. I did wipe the cases clean, as the other reviewers suggested, and cleaned the bore after each grit size. The force required to punch the bore lessened after each grit size. I RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT WITHOUT RESERVATION. No, I don't work for David Tubb.

Update on review of ...

Update on review of 9/2/06. I have recently added a Millett 2X Pistol Scope to the Ruger. From a solid rest the two best .22 loads that I spoke of before shot into one hole of 3/8". Most all others run from 1/2 to 3/4 inches. I would say the Tubb System worked quite well for this particular weapon. I have now changed my rating to 4 stars.

I have used this product ...

I have used this product in the past with great results, but this latest kit was not at all like previous kits. way too much lapping compound and I had to single load all 100 rounds. Also, this particular kit was more aggressive on the chamber than in the past and changed the lead in on the rifling in my barrel. Mini mags used to touch the lands too where you could see the rim of the case sitting above the barrel face, now the mini mags seat all the way down meaning that this kit was aggressive enough to lengthen the chamber. American Eagle used to shoot sub 3/8 groups at 50 yards., and now the barrel doesn't like them anymore. I will no longer use this kit on my barrels. It may have just ruined a $360.00 barrel.
