I really love this item. I bought mine back in the early 90's for an Interarms Mark X 30.06. The addition of the nice soft, thick pad provided perfect alignment of my eye to the scope (which has a 44mm obj. lens). I also enjoy the added bonus of no longer having a sore cheek bone after a day at the range with my .06. I liked it so much I have one on my Mossberg .22LR as well. When I upgraded to a 50mm scope I knew I would need to raise my cheek at the comb to get proper eye alignment with the scope, and this did the trick without any stock modification. I just added a thin strip of 1/4" foam beneath the suede pad at the comb, then cinched it down tight without any adhesive and that raised it perfectly. The strong velcro straps hold it in place. It looks great, is soft suede, feels nice on the cheek, and the item is fully adjustable with velcro straps that hold it firmly in place and have not failed me in over 15 years of service. Even after all those years of shooting, the suede cheek piece has not worn out, and it is not even oily from my face, as the material wears well and absorbs moisture nicely on a hot day. I get a lot of comments on it at the range, and once someone shoots either of my rifles with it, they want one for themselves. Note that it will raise your cheek at the comb about 3/8". So if your stock fits your eye to sight alignment perfectly as it is, maybe go with a thinner stick-on type pad. Otherwise, this is the best cheek rest/pad going. Treat yourself to one. Your cheek bone will thank you.

This thing builds height ...

This thing builds height on the comb and builds thickness on both sides of the stock equal to the increase in height. This moves the head (assuming a right handed shooter) to the left. The shooter must lean his head to the right to place his eye behind the scope. The result is that the head is leaning in an awkward position. This may or may not be a problem depending on the shooter's preference. This device adds considerable bulk to the stock.

I bought this cheek rest for my Zastava PAP AK platform rifle to reduce the recoil on my right cheek and to raise my line of sight to a better level for the scope. It works great for this. Only problem is that is does slip around a bit and requires readjustment after shooting a few rounds. Otherwise, great product.

This past summer I purchased 8 of these cheek rests for one of the ranges on the Ten Mile River Scout Reservation to use on our newly acquired Savage Mark 1 rifles, with Williams sights. They work great and as soon as I can get additional funding will be purchasing 24 more.

Blackhawk Cheekpad

I use this on my Remington 700P .308 as well as my Remington 870 12 gauge slug gun. It is a phenomenal product per dollar, but understand it's limitations. As other reviewers have stated, yes it does cant your head to the side. Don't purchase it if you can't live with that. Personally, I prefer the extra girth, especially on the 700. The straps are long but they are (in my opinion) meant to be cut down once it is installed on a particular firearm. Group sizes shrank once installed on both guns. The felt recoil is DEADENED on the 870 shooting slugs. It used to be each shot left a stinging shoulder and often a scope ring on my brow. It even bruised my cheek. No more. The slugs still punch my shoulder pretty good but overall, recoil is minuscule. I will be buying more.

I have an encore with a Nikon scope , med. rings. I couldn't line up on the scope with out moving my head around. I put on this rest, and I line up every time. I give it a four, still some minor adjustment to make for looks.

As said in some other reviews, this cheek pad pushes your head to the side as much as it raises the comb. It leads to a pretty awkward and uncomfortable fit. Removing the internal foam inserts also creates extra room inside the flexible shell, making your cheek weld mushy and inconsistent. I would recommend going with something more solid and permanent.

I have one of these on my AR-15. It works well, and I'll probably pick one up for a couple of other guns that have high sights/optics.I suggest some of the installation problems that make up the 2-3 star ratings are user error. To the users credit there are no instructions. However the correct way is set this up is to move the velcro on the inside ("attached" side) first, then secure the velcro that runs through the d-rings. Very good product and a lot easier to install and move than one that uses lacing.

Too large to fit on my ...

Too large to fit on my already rather clubish HS precision stock. Tighten the straps all the way and they are still 1/2" too long. The foam inserts are pretty soft, so it functions more like a cushion than it does to raise your cheek weld. I removed the straps and tied it on with a shoelace. Then I took out the soft foam and put in a piece of much harder foam. It is functional, but I will probably end up buying something else.

As other review stated, needs a little adjustment to fit tight (reverse the direction of the velcro and double loop). Put these on my Savage Accu-stock and Saiga. I now have a great fit on both rifles. At the sale price - its a winner compared to the screw on polys.

Mounted to Savage with accustock. Good amount of adjustment by removing one of the three pads. Only imperfection is the straps don't adjust small enough to be tight on the stock. With a little improvisation I adjusted them to work. Overall great product for the price. I will buy another one.
