Compared to the Hornady ...

Compared to the Hornady and Remington ballistic tip rounds, these are very sub-par. With every groundhog me and my hunting partner have shot with the Hornady and Remingtons death seems to be near instant, where as the CCI rounds seem to pass through with very little damage. It isn't good to shoot a groundhog with these CCIs and then watch it scurry 50' to its hole. These may be good for squirrel and cottontail because of the apparent little damage they cause, but for instant kills on larger varmints, stay away.

Am surprised at some of ...

Am surprised at some of the bad reviews for this round. I use it in my Savage bull barrel on destructive pests on my property. Have knocked out beavers, armadillos, coons and groundhogs up to 150 yards. My observation is that they experience instant demise, collapse on the spot, do not run, squirm or twitch. On inspection there is usually very little blood and just a small entry wound. I also appreciate that the bullets never seem to skip on the water. This is my "work round" around the home place.

I shoot this out of my ...

I shoot this out of my Savage rifle with a heavy barrel and accutrigger . This shoots better than three other brands and bullet weights I have tried. Great at 100 yards, pretty good at 150 yards. Shot at paper targets only so no info on killing performance yet but I know I am going to place the bullet where I want.

My Marlin hates this ...

My Marlin hates this ammunition. It leaves a lot of residue in the barrel, would barely hold an inch and a half group at 50 yards while others were around a half inch, more failure to extract than thrown brass, others worked fine. The only reason I gave this two stars instead of one is because of the actual bullet, I love the Speer TNT bullets performance and it gives excellent results in other loadings. This round gives excellent performance on game, very explosive.

I use these rounds with ...

I use these rounds with my Marlin 917. the rounds are devastating on grey squirrels. Every squirrel I have shot has been DRT. The only problem is the damage to the animal. Unless it is a head shot, there is too much damaged meat.

These are the most ...

These are the most accurate bullets I have shot in my Marlin 917 or NEF sportster. They shoot sub 1/2" groups at 100 yards and are very devastating on rock chucks. There is no question when you hit one. It sounds like a baseball bat hitting a watermelon.I was unable get the others to shoot very tight groups, but the CCI fell right in and have never let me down.

As compared to the Hornady brand bullets, these CCI bullets are very inconsistent and quite a bit slower as they hit some 5" lower than Hornady and spread open some 6" groups at 100 yards, if this caliber relied on this bullet it would go the way of the dodo bird.

This is really good ammo ...

This is really good ammo for my Marlin bolt action rifle. The first time I had a chance to shoot a coyote, it dropped like a rock from a 100yds out with a head shot. And those squirrels snap like a twig too. It had never misfired on me yet.
