I bought my 590 used though unfired and was a bit suprised to find it has a bayonet lug on it! :-)It uses a standard AR15 Bayonet on it and this cap is what the loop on the bayo mounts over. I don't know why anyone would want or need a bayonet on a shotgun but it is kind of kewl as a novelty item around the campfire, pop your bayonet on the end of your shotgun and enjoy the coments it brings. If you have a 590 with a Bayonet lug on it then this is the propper cap to hold your barrel on and attach the bayonet to.While it may not be particularly useful to me I do find it amusing so therefore it is worth having to me. I personaly find the heat shield much more useful but a lot less entertaining around the campfire! :-)RemMax
