Great product, works as ...

Great product, works as good as or better than much more expensive products offered by other companies. HOWEVER, I have one complaint and if you've read this far you already know what it is... Lee should either 1) offer the ball grip cutter, case length gauge, and lock stud as a COMPLETE SET for every caliber, or 2) include the lock stud WITH the ball cutter. After I THOUGHT I had everything I needed, I had to place another order for the standard cutter, just to get the lock stud, because I assumed it came with the ball cutter I originally ordered. Lee, are you paying attention???

I purchased 3 of these so I don't have to change the case length trimmers as often. The only reason I didn't give it more stars is because I discovered that each one trims my cases a little differently. I was trimming .223 cases and one trimmer cutter trimmed them to 1.746". I needed to trim some .45's and when I went back to trimming the .223's I screwed the case length gauge into one of the other cutters. I cut quite a few before my customary check with my calipers and discovered that this cutter was cutting them to 1.740". Not good. When I reinstalled the length gauge back into the original cutter, I had my 1.746" back. Since then, I marked each cutter for specific calibers. Other than that, I love this thing. Very consistent when using the "same" cutter.

I have another case trimmer by a different company and it is horrible. So I though I would try LEE's Case Trimmer. Get the one with the wooden ball a lot easier to hold. It is so simple You can't make a mistake with it. Of course there is more pieces you have to buy. A case lenght gauge (Pilot & shell holder) for each caliber case. A lock stud one fits all shell holders. It will only cut your case to the right length EVERY Time no ajustments to make. I am not being paid to say this. This is my honest Opinion. I Highly recomend it.

Nice, simple system

This case trimmer along with the caliber specific gauge and shellholder are a fairly low cost and easy to use method for maintaining case lengths after frequent reloadings. The ball grip is nice for older hands. Chucking the brass up in an electric drill is pretty simple and it gets the job done quickly.

Works great for me-I've used one now for about two years, and trimmed countless cases. Mostly .223, .308, and .30-06. When coupled with a case gage and used correctly, they produce very consistent case lengths. Out of a batch of 200 pieces of .223 I recently trimmed, all cases were +/- 0.001" (1.74"-1.76")of trim length...I know for some that isn't good enough, but it is for me-cheap and effective. I am generally a fan of Lee products and this is no exception.

This thing is a must. Really, I don't know why they make the trimmer without the ball grip. I can't imagine trying to trim more than a few cases without the ball grip. Just buy it and make your life easier.

This is a great tool that works fast and well. Ive used a big name hand lathe, which was a huge pain and takes way too long to be practical. This Lee product is made of hardened steel, so the blades stay sharp for a long time. The only weakness is that the length gauges are split and eventually thread-in too deep. The cure for this is to grind a flat spot through the hardened 2mm or so and drill/blind tap (thread) a set screw hole in it. The set screw secures the length gauge at the correct depth. If Lee did this it would probably increase the price, but it increases the tools value and usefulness by a lot. And, in my opinion is necessary for consistency.

I bought this system because it was cheap and appeared to be well liked. I got thru 150 .223 rds and now I am buying a different one. Accuracy on the trim is a lot like grenades or magnums, close is good enough and exact is not what you will get. The parts come lose and the cutter will even cut the length guide. Spend a little more and get a better unit, I am.
