Caliber: 218 Bee

Finish: Brass

Preparation:

Due to the manufacturing process and/or shipping, case mouths may not be perfectly round. To ensure a round case mouth, cases must be sized (or have the expander ball of the sizing die run through case neck) and deburred/Chamfered prior to loading.

Note:

A light "staining" may be found on the case neck of new brass. This is due to annealing. Annealing is a process, performed by the manufacturer, which involves rapid heating to a specified temperature followed by rapid cooling. This process imparts cases with the proper hardness to securely hold a bullet as well as gives flexibility to expand and contract upon firing and repeated forming. The "staining" is a residue from this process. This stain may be removed by tumbling before loading. Brass should be full-length sized, trimmed and chamfered before loading.

Very good brass

I wish all brass was this good.I have shot two hundred of these .218 Bee cases two thousand times.I have had one case split at the neck.The primer pockets are still tight.I load far above max.I expect many more loadings from these.Very good service from Midway.I can`t understand how any body could be unhappy with Winchester brass .I have also had very good luck with Remington brass.

The uniformity of this ...

The uniformity of this brass produces consistent results. I use this brass in a Browning Model 65. I recommend not using the various loading manuals' top loads as doing so results in only about three reloads before insipient head separations show up. For my rifle, keeping loads around or below 2,600 fps will more than double the life of the brass.

Winchester brass is very good brass and this cartridge is a good example of that quality. This particular case is, by the nature of the cartridge, a bit thin in the neck, making that part of the case a bit "tender." Careful original prep work to chamfer the necks properly helps (as does running the cases into a sizing die to straighten them prior to that). Using a boat tailed bullet can also be a help in reducing case mouth casualties when seating bullets if the rifle they are being loaded for can safely use the pointed tip that a boat-tailed design almost always has.

The only brass available ...

The only brass available for .218 BEE is from Winchester. Good for 3 to 4 reloads then the cases begin to split at the neck. MidwayUSA is the only place I've ever found them. Thanks MidwayUSA!

Since this is the only ...

Since this is the only source of brass, there is no alternative to go to. The only reason I stress this point is that it is very delicate...that is to say, more than a few pieces per bag were dented inward on the mouth so bad that even with the greatest care nothing could be done to salvage them. I urge anyone who uses this to be very cautious when forming the brass, as it is nearly as fragile as .22 Hornet! I have used Winchester brass for several of my guns and find it to be very nice. With the .218 Bee, caution must be excercised and extras should be purchased because no matter how careful you are you WILL end up tossing some away, but if you are careful and meticulous in the sizing and forming stages, this brass will prove worthy.

I reform these 218 shells ...

I reform these 218 shells into 17 Ackley Bee shells and I find them very easy to form. Go easy on the lube with a light film and they form like butter.Brass flows well.

I've been using this ...

I've been using this brass a lot over a period of about ten years. I find it is easy to load for and produces good accuracy. My Marlin in 218 Bee is my favorite walking varmint rifle. Where I live shots of much beyond 100 yds. are very rare, so the 218 Bee is just fine. I really love this cartridge/rifle combination.
