Winchester Reloading Brass is manufactured to extremely tight tolerances to ensure smooth feeding and positive chambering. Consistent case-to-case weight and capacity delivers outstanding accuracy. Winchester's high quality, durable brass can be reloading several times. New, unprimed brass. This is not loaded ammunition.

Preparation:

Due to the manufacturing process and/or shipping, case mouths may not be perfectly round. To ensure a round case mouth, cases must be sized (or have the expander ball of the sizing die run through case neck) and deburred/Chamfered prior to loading.

Note:

A light "staining" may be found on the case neck of new brass. This is due to annealing. Annealing is a process, performed by the manufacturer, which involves rapid heating to a specified temperature followed by rapid cooling. This process imparts cases with the proper hardness to securely hold a bullet as well as gives flexibility to expand and contract upon firing and repeated forming. The "staining" is a residue from this process. This stain may be removed by tumbling before loading. Brass should be full-length sized, trimmed and chamfered before loading.

These cases leave a lot ...

These cases leave a lot to be desired quality wise. The biggest issue is the oblong off-center flash holes that are very ragged on the inside requiring the use of a flash hole deburring tool. You can easily see the ragged brass through the flash hole. I already do this on target cases but should not have to on my nephews hunting loads. The necks are not close to being round or the same lengths. Lastly, one of the cases is stamped 308 Win even though it is actually a 243 case. Good thing I had a spare laying around or my nephew would be short one.

I'm glad I looked at ...

I'm glad I looked at these reviews. I bought 50 pcs of this brass for a new rifle. I have had trouble finding a load that doesn't give pressure signs; I'm talking about starting loads for 4 powders, and 3 bullet weights. I have been searching for the cause unsuccessfully. I bought a micrometer to measure case head expansion, and I have ordered headspace and max cartridge gages, thinking it has to be the chamber or the brass. These cases have needed trimming after every firing, so life won't be very good. Reading the other recent reviews makes me think I need to carefully asses the brass against other brands to compare weights, capacities, hardness and so on. I haven't noticed the obvious defects others mentioned though.

Absolutely the worst ...

Absolutely the worst quality control I have seen. Bought 50 cases to start with for loading. Primer pockets run from very loose to dangerously tight. Necks folded on some (not dented) making them scrap. neck wall thickness varies up to .005 on same case. Rims would not fit in shellholders without forcing (tried Redding, RCBS, Pacific (now Hornady), and Lee. 20 years ago, I used Winchester brass for almost everything I loaded, because at the time it was the most uniform stuff on the market. This is clearly no longer the case. I have also had extremely poor quality on other Winchester brass i have purchased during the last two years (22 Hornet, 308), so I dont think what i got is an isolated incident. The bottom line is I scrapped all this stuff (it was after all only 50 purchased), and reordered 100 Remington cases from Midway. No problems at all with the new cases, and expect them to last a long time in my rifle (neck and shoulder bump sizing only). I will avoid buying Winchester brass in the future, regardless of caliber.

I have reloaded for many ...

I have reloaded for many years and always used to use Winchester brass for all my reloading and was 100% satisfied. The last 4-5 years has been a totally different story. The last box of 1,000 I purchased had a 6% unusable rate. This included split necks, deformed shoulders(not dents),bases that would not fit into the shell holders and primer pockets that were very inconsistent in size(some almost would fall out and some would be scary to put in due to the tightness).Winchester has been very good about replacing the bad cases, it's just the point of having to do this with new brass. In fact I have had them send replacement cases that had the same percentage of unusable cases! I called Winchester and they are gladly again replacing cases, but buying new cases a person should not have to go through this all the time. I've had the same problems with numerous other calibers also. I want to buy Winchester, but am scared to.

This is the worst factory ...

This is the worst factory brass I have ever bought. No wonder it was the only 243 brass in stock. Flash holes are: elongated on some, WAY off center on others and all have to be cleaned from the horrible punching going on with these. Necks and shoulders were bent on many, so plan on sizing before using. I had to throw out ~30% due to flash holes being so far off center I did not feel safe using them.

In 10 out of 100 the case ...

In 10 out of 100 the case neck brass was paper thin. I doubt I'll be able to reload those 10. With the price of ammo components getting so expensive, I can't afford to throw away 10 out of 100.

I just loaded up some of ...

I just loaded up some of these for a buddy. The primer pockets were very inconsistent. I even use a primer pocket uniformer. Some primers seated easy, others very hard. Also after shooting the first time, some of the shoulders split.

I have had good luck with ...

I have had good luck with Winchester brass in .308 and 300 wsm but the 2 bags of 243 have been a pain. 1 of 5 seem to have primer pockets that are too tight to allow the primer to seat.(using a hand style priming tool)

I have been reloading ...

I have been reloading since 1969 and I have never had a complaint on ANY brass, I bought 243 cases. I loaded the brass and it wouldn't chamber. Unloaded and did a full length resize. I loaded them AGAIN. About 25 would fit the chamber. I looked at the specs of the case vs. SAAMI specs. All were in spec a minute variance of 2/ 10,000ths of an inch in where the case makes the first bend or in overall length, but wouldn't chamber. Did a chamber cast and everything was within spec. The only thing I could point was a possible variance in the die and brass. I did lose 9 cases where I was expanding the case and it spit from the case mouth to the to the body. Guess I'll buy another brass.
