The Forster Co-Ax Bench Priming Tool is easy to use and provides the reloader excellent feel when seating primers. The E-Z Just jaws close securely to grip most modern rifle and pistol cases with a rim thickness of .045 to .072 inches so additional shellholders are not required. The built-in primer flipper tray ensures that primers will be seated in the case the right way every time. Large and Small primer tubes (included) have an open slot and primers stack sideways for added safety.

Have previously tried ...

Have previously tried many press-mount styles and found them awkward and slow. Have used a lee auto-prime hand-held for years, but the design really made my thumb hurt. Got this Forster and was not really happy due to slowness (compared to handheld) and the primer flipper "tray" is hard to use. Then got an RCBS universal hand tool very similar to the lee - 2 problems with that: 1) it's poorly made and the ram is well off center (primers end up just slightly "canted" in the pocket) and 2) you can exert a lot of force and not know it due to the design - so the primer ends up deep and slightly canted. These 2 factors resulted in me having the first 5 primer failures (out of 60 rounds) in my 25+ year reloading experience the other day (and it was while I was working up a big bear load for 375 H&H - not good!).Went back to the Forster - the design is such that it ALWAYS seats the primers in dead straight. Also the ram is designed in such a way that it cannot seat too deeply. After thinking about my workflow process at the bench I was able to get up to decent speeds, and guess what? No more misfires!The only reason I don't give this product 5 stars is the poor "flipper tray" design.

This unit leaves no question about seating. When the primer is seated the ram stops, no feel involved. Check the seating depth with calipers and you'll find the variances you might expect due to manufacturing tolerances or shortcomings.Variation in seating depth is no fault of this tool. Forster instructions tell the user some milling or fine tuning may be necessary. I appreciate their frankness but find it difficult to accept a product that is not user ready. Primer loading is a joke. Small primers often double up and large primers often turn sideways. The aluminum primer magazines do require some fitting with a file or abrasive cloth.I have used a Lee hand primer and trashed it. I have an RCBS hand primer that has the same shortcomings as the high dollar Forster .....half the price, too.I can't recommend this unit in the face of hand primers that make you pull your hair at half the price.

I have only been reloading for a short time now and was in search of a way to prime off the press. After reading reviews and comparing prices I chose this one and I'm glad I did! I will admit that I have not used other bench primers, but this one works great! 5 minutes to thoroughly read the instructions, and about 2 to set it up and start priming. 7mm08 in this case. I was skeptical of the built primer tray, but it filled the tube fast! My only complaint would be that if you fail to seat your primer to the desired depth and you release the handle it feeds another primer to the punch automatically preventing a second try at it. No problem though, I just set it to the side and finished seating it after the tube was empty. Time and use will increase familiarity and reduce that issue I'm sure. I did uniform the pockets prior to seating. Great product!

I have used many priming tools but this one is the best. Press mounted, Lee, RCBS and the single type. But this one seats the primer perfectly. More so than the others. The press mounted was too hard to find the proper pressure. The RCBS jammed and was a spin off of the Lee one. My Lee hand primer wore out after many thousands of rounds and they dont make it any more. Finally I looked at a friends reloaded ammo and asked him how he seated the primer so perfectly. He told me and I bought it and am very pleased with it. You will be too. But if you load ammo to blast away with ie the blue machines, you will not like it. If you load ammo to punch holes in the X ring you will be happy. Your primer seating will be perfect and uniform. One less variable eliminated.

I love the function and feel of the machine when you are priming cases. I do not like the way that you have to load the primer tube. It is awkward and a real pain when you have the machine mounted on the work bench. My solution was to use a primer pick up tube from a Hornady press and make an aluminum transition plate to turn the primers from back to back to side to side alignment, and feed them into the Forester pick up tube. Love the machine, hate to load the feed tubes. A little redesign would make it perfect.

This tool seems precise and well machined. I only wish it worked. I read and followed the directions to the letter. This tool did not seem intuitive to me. After I got it set up, I had nothing but problems getting the primers to feed correctly. Each time I tried to set a primer, the next primer impinged on the tool. Primers do not feed reliably. You cannot feel the primer seating; you have to trust that when it stops, the primer is seated. Bottom line: clumsy, unreliable, frustrating.

A handheld priming tool ...

A handheld priming tool (Hornady) is fine for me when priming pistol cases. However, large rifle primers require more effort. Plus service rifles with a floating firing pin REQUIRE that the primer is seated below the case head to avoid slam fires. This priming tool is excellent for that purpose. You can adjust the depth the priming ram goes to. Always straight in. More leverage than a hand-held tool but plenty of "feel" left. The flipper tray is kind of tedious but works for me to load the tubes. Being able to visually check that every primer is loaded facing the right way is a bonus for me. I cannot understand the reviewers who have trouble with primers turning sideways in the tubes - there are 2 tubes, 1 for large primers and 1 for small. Changing between cartridges takes a little time because of adjusting the jaws the case head fits into.

This tool is just terrible. Primers turn sideways and jam in the magazines, it is a hassle to adjust the shell holders and it has poor feel. I struggled with this thing for several hours before giving up. I gave it away, it came back. Ultimately it went in the trash. I have tried several priming tools and this is the worst. I am using a Hornady handheld tool which works very well, uses ordinary shell holders so no adjustment and is not too expensive. I have a Bonanza press I love. Go figure.

For approximately one year I have used this to reload Primers. Thousands of rounds and never a failure. I have no idea what the others are complaining about. I was skeptical because of the other reviews but after using this Forster tool I can assure you it works great. I typically reload in groups of 50 rounds and it takes me less than 10 min to Prime them with this tool.

I own an RCBS hand ...

I own an RCBS hand priming tool and a Lee hand priming tool. I have also owned the RCBS bench mounted. The Forster has them all beat. It is much faster and the consistency is almost as good as the CO-AX press mounted tool. Anyone who knows what aprimer flipper tray is knows that the 'primer flipper' included on this tool is not worth trying in the first place. I use the space for a 1/4" filler block so I can C-clamp the unit to my bench. I use a Lee primer flipper tray to load the tubes for this tool. The only issues I have had with this is when you are down to the last 3 or 4 primers in the magazine, you must be very careful not let the primers flip sideways. It is only a matter of being aware of what you are doing at all times. I give it a five star in spite of the things I just mentioned simply because there is nothing better in its class.
