Looked pretty until it got used and needed work...Unless you run a synthetic buffer pin, the firing pin's hammer face will get beat up and break, since the rear of the firing pin tries to occupy the same space the buffer pin is in at full rear bolt travel. Not sure why they designed it this way. The stock firing pin is elevated above the buffer pin to avoid this hi-impact collision. You have to heat the bolt to unscrew the loc-tited charging handle retaining plunger before the extractor can ever be removed. The firing pin hole on mine wandered during the loooong drill towards the bolt face, as a result, the firing pin enters the bolt face well below the rim's recessed edge and to towards the extractor region of the recess, which results in a diagonal pin strike too far towards the center of the cartridge to get reliable ignition. There is a portion of the firing pin that is almost an inch long, and a hair over 1/16" in diameter, that had a slight bend in it after a few hundred rounds. Could stand to be re-engineered to avoid the portion profile that is smaller than a toothpick and susceptible to fatigue. Switching to a Kid bolt. If I ever need another high-end bolt, I'll check to see if Volquartsen fixed these issues, if not, I won't buy again.

I wanted to give this product a 0 rating but it won't allow me to so I was forced to select 1 star. I do this because I feel this bolt is a complete piece of garbage. I bought this as a companion for my superlight receiver and Volquartsen trigger group. My first impression was it was well made, however upon installing I experienced multiple failures and of a bigger concern the bolt failed to extract fired shell casings as well and unfired, that's kinda important. And for the $200+ I was expecting more, I got so frustrated with it I tossed it in a lake and bought a bolt from Tony Kidd his works perfectly.

I installed this item a couple of months ago and have had zero problems! The improved design truly is improved. I was reluctant to buy this at first because of the other reviews, but I have had none of the problems that they had had. I would buy another if had anther 10/22.

The CNC bolt does what they say. It cycles fast. The bolt handle fell out once and Volquartsen sent me improved spares for $5 each. The larger striking service of the firing pin produces less misfires. The only flaw is: complete cleaning by removing the bolt is a nuisance as the spring and guide rod are tightly fit. Therefore I've been leaving the bolt in the receiver about 1 out of 4 cleanings.

I purchased this bolt and a Superlite receiver to build a light easy to handle rifle. Together with a butler creek light barrel and a synthetic stock I've assembled a great shooting and very light rifle. It's a pleasure to shoot and carry as it weights practically nothing and I haven't had a single issue with functionality so far. In fact it works better with aftermarket magazines than my other 10/22's. And it's a tack driver at 50 yards. I own two other 10/22's, one factory target model and one I bought from a friend which I plan to upgrade with this new bolt assembly and maybe a target heavy barrel. I have to say Volquartsen makes quality parts and so far I have to agree.

Bolt will not lock up ...

Bolt will not lock up causing misfires and won't eject shells. I used with Volquartsen SS receiver and barrel. I tried in two other guns would not work in any. No luck with Volquarsten customer service. Will not buy from again.
