I just had this mount installed on my savage 340 in .30-30 and it turned out great. Quality mount for this rifle all the way. Had a gunsmith dril and tap the rifle for $53.00. Have no fear about buying this mount for your 340, it works great! Must be the best system for a 340!

*Warning*Please note the holes on the photo of the mount. If you have an early issue of the Savage 340, you may not have the corresponding holes on your rifle. I have such a rifle. The mount fits on the action, but I will have to drill and tap the holes myself. I will also have to Dremel some of the stock to make things fit. Not exactly a "no gunsmith" project anymore, but still in the range of a determined semi-skilled hobbyist. There is no mention of this information in the B-Square website (they have stopped making this item). The bottom line is that if you have the early two-hole rifle, this will not be an easy "no gunsmith" job. The mount will require precise alignment, careful drilling using a drill press, careful tapping of the holes plus some modification of the stock. Of course, you always have the option of taking the rifle, mount and your checkbook to your local gunsmith. I have contacted Midway on this matter. They said that they may modify the Tech Notes section on this problem.

Prior to ordering this base I used the traditional Weaver side mount set up. While the Weaver is functional, this B-Square mount is noticeably better!

The B-Square mount does place the scope high enough to use the iron sights, but it's not obscenely high like I found the Weaver model to be. I should note that I used the supplied rings and they are functional, not great but not bad.

With the B-Square mount/ring combination I am more able to get a good, solid, and consistant cheekweld; rather than the "chinweld" with the Weaver set up.

Due to now being able to gain that consistant cheekweld my groups have shrunk literally in half. While still not great, it's a huge improvement.

Also I should mention the obvious, that due to the multi-slot design I was able to adjust my rings & scope position to get the eye relief set perfectly for ME. The Weaver model is just too limited in this regard.

One aspect of the B-Square mount over the Weaver unit that any potential buyer should be aware of is that modern scopes all seem to have the bulged out area where the windage/elevation turrets are. They are no longer "smooth tubed" like older scopes are. I have found difficulty with Weaver's side mount rings with some modern scopes. The B-Square model since it uses regular rings does not suffer this problem of the turret areas bulge contacting the base/rings. I hope that makes sense.

Over all while NOT perfect in my opinion, I do believe the B-Square is about the best option currently available. To qualify this opinion please understand that NO company can really make everyone happy all the time. I prefer my scopes to sit LOW so my face snugs down INTO the stock, I dislike high mounts. Weaver puts it too high but allows the use of irons with an easily removable set of rings. B-Square allows the user to peek right under the top rail and find the irons for instant use.

If Weaver would put out a set of side mount rings that were anything but HIGH -Medium or LOW- I would revisit the Weaver option. Until that happens the B-Square is my choice.

While I am taking up time from your life as well as my own, I would also say that the price really isn't that out of line by the time you factor everything together. Base & Rings when compared to Weaver's are within $10 off the top of my head. It would be nicer if the B-Square base was available without their rings for buyers who prefer to choose their own.

Ease of mounting was no different than any other sidemount. It's only 4 screws and a Monkey could do it. I did have to take a sharp pocketknife and open up the slot in the stock just a hair on the ends so it fit properly. It was nothing major, dig in tip, slide, trim, fit, install 4 screws, done.

I have since ordered a second B-Square mount for another Savage/Stevens rifle so I can get rid of the Weaver sidemount set it currently has.

I have no affiliation with Weaver, B-Square, or any other Manufacturer/Retailer. I am just a satisfied customer.

This is the only mount to consider putting on the 340 etc. Savages. Save your sanity , spend a little more and you will have a first class mount that you can actually move your scope to get proper eye relief. The rings are 'ok' could be a little better.

I used this on my Savage 340 model 30-30. The holes match up perfectly. In a matter of 10 minutes I had the new scope mount on and new scope put on. I definitely would recommend this product to anyone.

I used this mount on a M 340B .222 Rem. The stock needed a little fitting, no big deal, that took all of 10 minutes. I like the mount itself, it is just high enough that it allows use of the iron sights too. The rings however are very poor quality. I first set them up with the lock screws on the left, this did caused too much left hand windage and not enough elevation. I switched the lock screws to the right, then had too much right hand windage and not enough elevation, I then moved them front to back both windage and elevation were closer but not within the adjustment of my Burris scope. 4th and last try I flipped the mounting screws around to the other side and this put me within the windage and elevation adjustment of my scope. I will try other rings in the future but these rings are clearly not true.

Very nice sturdy mount. I installed this on my Stevens 325B 30-30. As mentioned the rings are "junk". I would go with low rings as the mount does put the scope a little high to get a good cheek weld.

These savage 340's are some quirky old guns but they shoot good. You just have to put a good scope and a good base on them .This B-SQUARE is the way to go, it is the only base that will give you enough clearance to put a good scope on your gun.

I used this on a Revelation 225 30-30 (Savage 340C- compact) The mount fits like a glove. If you are smarter than the rings, they work excellent too. With a Weaver V3, it brought new life into a quirky old rifle. I can still use the iron sights too.
