Mine was actually chromed, not painted. It does clean a little easier and it looks kinda cool too. It has held up to ten, hard shooting years so far and there is no real wear so I would have to say the chrome has done its job and reduced the wear and tear on this part. I'd get another if I had a second AR.

Part would not fit on my Noveske lower, it was too thick. I even tried polishing the contact surfaces, still no dice.

Part fits exactly as it should, looks great and matches other DPMS satin chrome parts that I used to assemble my lower reciever. The finish on the one I got looks much better than the picture.

Yes, it's extra $$ for show, but it's harmless bling so what the heck. Fits and functions perfectly ! Be aware these are satin finish, not shiny/polished. Finish matches other DPMS chrome parts.
