Shot out of Glock 22, Two 15 round clips with no problems but I did notice that the rubber that sticks out the top of the bullet if not push back all way back in the magazine makes it hard to load? And that could give other types magazines or guns feeding problems. It mushrooms out like Hornady shows one their website. I have CRITICAL DEFENSE in my 38 sp. and 40 sw and like how it shoots and performs in both guns. (I gave it five stars because it shoot and loads OK in my gun).

I test fired the Hornady ...

I test fired the Hornady Critical Defense ammo [in .40 S&W] against several other self-defense loads. This was only a home-grown test. Your mileage may vary. Anecdotal evidence is worth what you pay for it, but here's my experience. All rounds were fired through a plastic milk jug filled with water, positioned in front of a cardboard box filled with water-saturated newspaper. The Hornady Critical Defense load showed explosive, obliterating power on the water jugs, penetrated an inch further than any other load tested and mushroomed perfectly. For that it gets my highest praise. However, the bullet profile is pretty sharp. In 20 rounds through a .40 caliber Browning Hi-Power I had four rounds hang up on the feed ramp. Switching to a Kahr CW40 I had a further three rounds fail to properly enter the chamber. No other brand or type of ammo used in my little test had any failures in any pistol. For that, the Critical Defense doesn't make the cut in my opinion. The Hornady TAP was excellent, flawless as were the Remington Golden Saber, and the Glaser PowRBall. Given the uncertainty with which the Critical Defense ammo fed in my two pistols though I cannot trust it as my everyday concealed carry load. Again, different shooters with different pistols may get different results, but Hornady has not won me over with this load yet. I'm not confident it will be there for me if I need it.

Hornady Critical Defense 40 S&W 165 Grain works fine with my Glock 23 and Glock 27 as does any ammo I use with them. What I like about Hornady Critical Defense is how well it worked when I tested the ammo with 4 layers of denim and 4 water jugs. Penetration was about 16 inches and it expanded to .715. I find the ammo very Accurate at 25 yards and recoil very manageable. This is only my experience with this ammo, your results may vary.

I used this for the first time in my XD 40 with no problems or issues with my gun. I shot with standard FMJ and then with the Critical Defense ammo, and you can see the difference in the size of the hole in the paper target. I would recommend this to anyone that wants a defense ammo for their home protection. I also bought this for my 357 Mag, for my wife when Im not home.

Shot two boxes through a ...

Shot two boxes through a 40 cal, full size, baby eagle into water jugs and ballistic gelatin. Accuracy is fine in this polygonal rifle barrel. Inside 4in at 15 yds. Penetration was very good, at 15 in gelatin 12 in with 1in of cardboard in front. Decimates water jugs, but some of the rounds fired did not expand as expected. That is the reason for 4 stars, over all very good.

Bought 2 boxes of this ammo. I had 12 rounds that would not fire. The primer dented, click no bang. That was 12 failure to fires out of 2 boxes (40 rounds). Recycling the ammo a second time fired off the 11 that would not fire. I kept the 12th one to examine. Fired 100 rounds of another brand flawlessly to prove to myself the problem was not the firearm. I have Critical Defense in 45 and in .357 and never had an issue. I shoot a lot and have not had a misfire in probably 20 years. It really surprised me. Not Midway's fault. Just bad luck or a bad lot.

Dear Hornady. I am a fan of your products but not this one. After more than 400 rounds fired in two different 40 S&Ws I am not pleased. My own reloads with your 200 gr XTP shoot much better with no issues. The Critical Defense load reviewed here was hot, noisy, flipped brass all over the range, jammed several times, and was inaccurate spreading bullets much more than my normal with the same guns. I will not buy anymore.

I ran a box of these through my Sig 229 with absolutely no feed or ejection problems. They're hard-hitting, and seem effective in my tests at the range. I haven't had the need to use them for the intended purpose, but I trust the science and claims of such a reputable manufacturer.

I have the Critical Defense for my 9mm and it shoots and performs flawlessly just how its suppose to it is an amazing round and dont think I will be using any other round when carrying but I currently cannot find any Critical Defense for my .40 have been looking for about 5 months now no luck at all
