Product Information

Hornady's V-Max Bullets feature a polymer tip which enhances accuracy and promotes devastating expansion. The tip raises the ballistic coefficient for faster velocity and helps to stabilize the bullet in flight. It also acts as a wedge, initiating bullet expansion.
The copper jacket provides the necessary bearing surface for maximum stability out of the barrel, and the jacket is built to withstand the fast twist rates of the most advanced varmint rifles.

This is not loaded ammunition.

I'm not trying to be critical but these bullets are varmint bullets without a doubt. A few people told me to try these and I loaded up a box and went out and tested them last fall. I was using a Ruger M77 7mm Rem Mag and they grouped very well and shot accurately. But when I busted a couple deer the results were not impressive. Opening day I got my chance to try it, and shot one of my biggest bucks to date. The bullets hit the rib bone and came apart sending shrapnel throughout the vitals and resulting in two more shots to put the old brusier down for good. Had it not been for those extra shots I'm not convinced I would have recovered the buck. Then doe season rolled around and started busting does. The results were the bullet's to fragile and violent upon contact. It comes apart basically on contact resulting in bad penetration and just a big entry hole which every hunter knows is poor penetration and excessive meat damage and possibly a wounded deer. I say they're good for varmints and predators such as groundhogs and coyotes. But these should come with a huge warning sticker not for deer. If you really want a bullet this light for deer, go with the Sierra Pro Hunter 120 grain, deadly accurate and deadly on the whitetail.

I've used these bullets for several seasons now. I use them out of my Ruger M77 7mm Rem Mag. I've shot a few deer with them, and usually the devastation done drops them in their tracks. I highly recommend these for long range shooting. If you're looking for a long range bullet out of your big 7 this is a start.

VERY EXPLOSIVE. I have loaded these for my 280 for coyotes, foxes and groundhogs and they are astounding. A red fox I shot at about 130 yards away had a 5-6" hole on the off side of it. They also shoot very flat because I can hold dead on while shooting out to 500-550 yards when I have them sighted in at 6" high at 100 yards. Perfect bullet for long range shooting.

Very accurate out of my 7mm Mag. 3/8" groups at 100 and 5" groups at 800. This truly is a "head shot" bullet for whitetails as it will take it clean off, but for varmints and target, you can't beat them.

Made a reduced load in ...

Made a reduced load in 7mm-08 using this bullet. Getting 1/4'' groups @ 100yds. Shot an eight point this season @ 50yds. Deer was broadside, bullet went in right shoulder and broke the off side shoulder. No exit, and the deer went straight down. Very good bullet for reduced whitetail load.
