Definitely worth the few ...

Definitely worth the few extra dollars over a standard carbine spring. It's as advertised: the spring has much more tension and the metal looks thicker. From the moment you install the buffer you can already tell that it's pushing harder on the buffer retainer than the stock spring, which I found to be encouraging. I installed this spring on my .223 with an enidine hydraulic recoil buffer and even with the hydraulic buffer installed you can tell the difference in recoil. The Wolff spring eases recoil very nicely all on its own, but with a hydraulic buffer and a good compensator/brake (I use the YHM phantom) .223 feels like you're shooting a BB gun. It's amazing. Target acquisition and re-acquisition is so quick you can get back on the bullseye before the gun is. This spring is an absolute must! It's not expensive and even if this is the only part you spend a couple of extra dollars on it's well worth it. Reduced recoil and muzzle jump. Reduced component wear, which is enhanced further with the M16 clinic pad. This is the best inexpensive way to improve the action of your rifle, hands down. Pulling the charging handle all the way back becomes more of a chore, which is the only down side, but you get used to it fast and it's not so stiff that you can't compensate for the extra tension. Actually - having the extra resistance helps build a little more muscle and after a little while you barely even notice. Locking the action is a little annoying but it's not like you're doing that constantly anyways. The benefits of this spring well outweigh the annoyance of having to put a little more elbow grease into engaging the bolt catch.

Great spring, does ...

Great spring, does provide quick cycling. I installed this in a custom build with an adjustable stock. Will only allow for single shot with .223 - works fine with 5.56. With .223 the spent shell ejects okay, but does not pick up a fresh round from the magazine. Other than that seems to work great.

Great buffer spring! Enhances not only recoil, but feeding is much more positive; especially when the BCG is fouled (i.e. running a suppressor). Installed one in a 16" DD Midlength gas system (H) and a 16" DD Carbine gas system (H) with excellent results. Bought one for a Larue 10.5 SBR as it will tame the action (acts over-gassed). Won't use anything else from now on.

Used this wolf spring on ...

Used this wolf spring on an a brand new Noveske CQB 10.5 with a h2 buffer shooting 5.56 ammo and it cycles fine without any problem! No FTE or FTF whatsoever and shell ejected 4 feet away and not 20 feet..Shot 8 mags 30rd each and the bolt locked back on the last round every time! As for reduced recoil, I cant tell you. Should have shot it with the regular spring first. The CQB shot awesome with very minimal jump you will expect form a short barrel.

I installed this buffer spring in my Stag Arms Model 3 carbine because that particular rifle seemed to recoil and "jump" considerably more than other carbines I've shot - such as a DPMS Sportical. I have no idea why that is. I've never had any trouble with the Stag. It just seemed to cycle pretty "hard"...and you could really hear the "sproing" from the stock buffer spring while the rifle was cycling. From what I understand, two common ways to address these issues are to upgrade to a stronger buffer spring and/or upgrade to a heavier buffer. I tried this spring first because it is less expensive than a new, heavy buffer, and I didn't want to "over do" it with both. That is, too strong of a spring and/or too heavy of a buffer may prevent the rifle from cycling properly. Well, I just got back from the range. I only fired about 100 rounds, but the Stag's recoil and "jump" have been reduced noticeably...and more importantly, it cycled fine (and I was worried about that) with plain, ol' PMC 55 gr. .223 FMJ. If anything, the new spring should weaken a bit with use, so if it's cycling now with .223, I should be good to go from here on out - especially with 5.56. The "sproing" has also been reduced considerably. In fact, I didn't hear it at all today. Thus far, I would say that the Stag now shoots, and sounds, much more like my mid-length Del-ton does (I agree with those who claim that mid-length ARs tend to shoot "smoother" than carbines). As of now, I do not plan on also upgrading to a new buffer - I think this spring did the trick. Yes, this spring does make pulling the charging handle a BIT more difficult...but not by much.

Great spring. Definitely decreases the recoil and eliminates the "twang". I had a few issues immediately after the spring was installed where the rifle wouldn't fully cycle. After about 30 rounds it appeared this was no longer the case. Another thing I have experienced is the bolt not locking back when a magazine empties when using .223 using 5.56 this is not a problem. In conclusion, if you use 5.56 I highly recommend using this spring. If you are using .223 I wouldn't recommend this if you needed to have a quick reload.

Fantastic spring, but ideally for use only with 5.56. My AR with a H2 buffer and this spring, will not cycle properly with .223; 5.56 no problem. I've had a few cases where the bolt wouldn't lock back on empty, even with 5.56, but it seems to happen less and less as I put more rounds. My test for this review was only 30 rds.
