I've had one of these for years, which is now in a box in my garage. I could never get it to zero any scope I tried on my Mini-14 which is a 181 series (Pre-ranch rifle). If you have a ranch mini-14, just get a rail which attaches via the Ruger scope mount cuts. If you have an older pre ranch rifle, find a rail which mounts where the rear sight mounts. That will at least keep the scope over the bore and less of a pain.

I gave this product 3 stars because I was able to put a nice scope on it and shoot groups at 1 inch at 25 yards. But the little plate that is tapped to hold down the mount that they give you to replace your factory plate is very thin. Its like sheet metal. Come on, you can do better that that! So after messing around with it some, at the end of the day it worked. I would recommend the B-Square name brand mount. I know its like seventy something bucks but it is worth it.

Overall it's a good piece. The instructions are not very clear-nor is Ruger's on how to remove the bolt release cover. And I also do not like the heli-coil insert that is used on the new cover where the actual sight base is attached to the side of the gun. I'll see how it holds up. But, if you're looking for a scope mounting that allows you to use the iron sights on you mini than this one is pretty good.

I have owned numerous Mini-14's and worked on even more, this mount is the BEST I have installed and used for the price. Installation is a breeze if you are familiar with your firearm and the set screws hold it in place no rattling on your scope/red dot, be sure not to strip out the set screws.

After several hours of research, I purchased this mount for my Mini-14 and spent time trying to sight it in. It aims to the left (or shoots far to the right) of where the target is. It does not get within 24 inches of the target at 100 yards. It appears that the top-mount set screws shove the front of the rail to the left because the side-mount plate is loose behind the tighten knob. Shims will be necessary to align the scope to the barrel. I don't consider shims under the rear of the side mount a long term solution. I even took it to a professional because I thought I was doing something wrong. I have this thing set up correctly. So, now I am re-shopping for a new Mini-14 scope base mount.
