This tool is made from flat metal stock (about 1/8" thick) that has a nice phosphate finish. The portion of the tool you grip has been dipped in a plastic/rubber coating. The openings for the carbine "castle" nut and the flash suppressor both fit snugly on my gun. But be aware this tool only has an 8" OAL, so it doesn't give you nearly as much leverage as longer tools. Installing a new "castle" nut doesn't take much torque, so this isn't an issue; but if you need to remove a "castle" nut that has been staked in place, it could become one. Also, the flash suppressor opening is almost dead center of the tool, reducing leverage even more. This is especially relevant when trying to install a flash hider with a crush-type washer. I downgraded the tool slightly because of this, but for the price, I think it gives both good service and value.

Good for the money

I have 3 AR's and this wrench fits the buffer housing nut on 2 of them but on the third I can only get 2 studs to grab.(could be the stock, not the tool, as it is after market) Haven't used other features as of yet. Still works fine though.....

I used this tool to install the collapsible buttstock on my M-4 build. It worked satisfactorily. You must firmly support the tool against the castle nut to prevent it from jumping out of the notches in the nut and marring the nut when applying torque to the tool. Don't forget to stake or apply threadlocker to the joint to prevent loosening of the castle nut.

Simple tool that works

I will only ever use this to R&R the castle nut on buffer tubes, and it works very good for that. I will most likely never use the part that is for flash hider removal, I don't believe the tool will provide the needed leverage to remove or install a flash hider.

I got this tool to loosen the castle nut on my AR. Right off I discovered the castle nut on my AR was installed backwards and the wrench would not slide into place. I wrapped tape around the nut and was able to get it loose without a scratch. I flipped the nut around, installed a sling mount and tightened the nut without a hitch. I was worried about TAPCO's reputation and didn't want to spend a lot of bucks. I would recommend this multi-tool to anyone that needs to loosen the castle nut on their AR.

Bought 2 neither fit any ...

Bought 2 neither fit any of the 9 castle nuts on my guns. The edges of some of the tabs were rounded off so no flat surface to grip the nuts if they had fit. One was to be a gift to a family member who got their first AR but instead I went and got them a better tool. Both had to be modified to work.
