This upgrade kit solves ...

This upgrade kit solves the leakage problem of the standard lee disk dispenser. It uses a rubber wiper w/ little or no clearance contact with the disk resulting in little or no leaks. It also eliminates powder cutting in the standard dispenser due also to the rubber wiper. Lastly, it elimates the pesky use of wood screw in the standard model which sometimes strips the hopper fastening holes. If you're going to buy a Lee disk dispenser, and cost is not an issue, better the get the pro-model immediately to avoid problems.

I purchased this kit ...

I purchased this kit because the previous set up was a mess. The autodisk was leaking and the hopper was getting stripped using the wood screws it came with. Fine powders such as H110, TiteGroup, and other small flake powders were leaking all the time. This was a better improvement over the hopper, but even with the screws on tight, I seem to have leakage again. I have to tip the turret over a sheet of paper to recover the lost powder, and then recycle it. I have nothing but Lee reloading equipment, and I was hoping to get a significant improvement. However, this one falls a little short. The dies are the best, but the plastic/metal combination does not seem to be working here. Perhaps the surfaces should be covered with some type of "gasket" to stop this leakage. Lee Precision can always do better, and I am counting on it.

If you have had the threads pull out from your original autodisc kit due to repeted disc changes this is a godsend. it eliminates the steel screws in plastic and has brass thumbnuts for repeted disc changes with no problems. the hopper is also larger and requires less filling. The swivel unit makes it much easyer to install on my four hole turret press.

My old version Auto Disk powder measure leaked powder when using fine grained powder. The powder leakage at times caused the disk to jam after dumping a powder charge and not fully resetting. The upgrade kit solved the powder leakage problem. Being able to turn the hopper off and removing the hopper with the thumb screws is of course a lot faster. Have not yet tried the adjustable powder bar. Money well spent. Definitely would recommend the Upgrade Kit for the Lee Auto Disk if you have lower priced Auto Disk powder measure.

This kit works great. I use it on my turret press and have the case activate the charge. With the Lee volume CC system you just have to weigh your charges and then go with what works.

This kit provides a few improvements over the standard Auto-Disk Powder Measure but, as I've found with most Lee products, the more mechanically complex the products become with more moving parts, the more fussy and unreliable they become too. For example, just compare the online reviews of the Lee Load Master vs. the Lee Hand Press (or even vs. the turret presses) and you'll see my point! Although convenient, the swivel adapter in this update kit does not permit full travel of the powder disk. Therefore, the larger size powder measures (the larger holes in the disks, do not fully extend the drop tube opening in the base. This leaves a "shelf" on the base on which powder can rest and fail to drop. The problem stems from a poor fit between the knurled adapter and "keeper" fingers of the adapter. There is too much clearance here and the force from the return spring opens a gap between the knurled nut and the fingers. A small gap here is magnified into a surprising loss of travel at the disk powder "dump" position. Stacking an extra retaining clip onto the knurled nut might take up the clearance but I'm just going to look for a thin washer to put between the retaining clip and the knurled nut. You really need minimum clearance here (just enough to be able to turn the knurled nut.

I have now converted all of my hoppers to the Pro version, with the price now it was a deal, the hopper is worth the cost alone. I don't bother with the new chain setup, in fact I installed the old lever and spring on all of my powder measures, works better if you ask me and you can get the parts at Midway. I'm still using the disks instead of the charge bar, I may give it a try later. The thumbscrews are nice, no longer do you have to worry about stripping the screw holes. Great buy at $12.50

The square hopper on my autoprime finally stripped out. I ordered the "Update Kit to replace it. I am loading .45acp, 9mm and .223. At the time the upgrade came I was loading 9mms using Hodgdon TiteGroup. I wanted to try out the adjustable charge bar and set it up for the .34cc middle of the road charge. Every time I dumped a charge it was different. I mean, you could actually tell the difference by looking into the shell! Sometimes there was only one or two flakes of powder. So I took everything apart, put it back together with the same result. So, it was time to break out the instructions again. In them I found this passage: "Course flake powders like Red Dot and Green dot can give erratic charges when the charge bar is set smaller than .4cc". Can I get an amen to that! After discovering this I put my tried and true disk back in and was back in business. The new hopper and upgraded mounting design really is much improved over the old square hopper. And when I load bigger charges for my .45 and .223 I am sure the adjustable charge bar will work very well.

Shut-off powder hopper alone is worth the price. Adjustable charge bar is a sweet option. Junk pull-chain actuator is crap. Lee should provide a spring actuated arm and spring instead; it is a proven and reliable design.

After using this for a while, I still think the round powder hopper with the thumb screws is a plus for die and powder changing and it works well with the auto disks. The micro-adjust charge bar is worthless with the Pro Auto Disk measure. The charging cavity does not line up with the exit hole in the charging hopper, and you get a random charge at best, especially at low settings. I would not trust ammunition loaded with this set-up. The charge bar works OK with the old rectangular charge hopper, because the exit slot is bigger and partially covers the cavity in the micro-adjust charge bar, allowing a little more room for the powder to fill the charge bar cavity. LEE is usually better than this and I am not satisfied with the charge bar.

If you have the old style rectangular powder hopper, by all means spend the money and get this kit, but do not toss your spring loaded return as the chain return furnished in this kit is junk, it does remove the possibility of a double charge, but so will a little care when you are reloading. I have mixed feelings about the adjustable powder bar, it works, but not as accurate as the disks. They are however quicker to make minor adjustments with.

I bought this kit mainly for the adjustable charge bar that it comes with. That way I only paid a little bit more and got the extra hopper to boot. I set up the extra hopper (I bought the Pro Measure from the get-go) with the longer screws and risers for my double disk kit so I don't have to change over the screws and risers from one hopper back and forth when switching from single or double disk operation. Highly satisfied with that arrangement and recommend going that route to others as well --- makes things nice and quick when going back and forth from one mode or the other.
