RCBS Shellholders are a great Value

RCBS Dies and Shellholders are a great value for your money.
If you prime with a hand held priming tool that uses a unique shellholder don't forget to also get a shellholder for the priming tool, like I did.

I have used this shellholder with no problems for loading my 338-378 Weatherby. After reading the previous reviews i was worried about ruining some brass and who wouldnt be with the price of weatherby/Norma brass, but the shellholder fits the Weatherby case better than Lapua case

Along with the other reviews, these shellholders do not hold up for 338 Lapua. The rim of the shellholder pops off (sometimes quite violently). Gone through 2 in the last six months.

I have used these shellholders for all my big magnums. 378, 30-378, 416 and 460 Wby. Never an issue, never a problem.

The problem is that the forward surface of the cases extractor groove contacts the top edge of the shellholder and the bottom of the case is not supported by the face of the shellholder. As the round is FL sized, the shellholder lips have to support all the pressure of FL sizing as the case head is not contacting the shellholder. Over time, the shellholder lip cracks under this pressure. I have done this to a half dozen RCBS shellholders using the Lapua cases. It may work better with the Wby cases and certainly would not have this problem with the 45-70 but if your loading the 338 Lapua, do not use this shellholder.

Don't get me wrong; RCBS makes a lot of fine quality reloading equipment, but for about the past 8 months or so, the #14 shellholder just hasn't been holding up like it's supposed to. I reload a lot of .338 Lapua Magnum. I don't know if these shellholders came out of a bad lot or something, but here lately I've had quite a few of them crack and therefore get stuck in the full-length sizing die and it wasn't because special care wasn't taken with the proper lubing techniques that's required. As I stated before; I literally reload thousands of rounds of .338 Lapua Magnum each year. (I currently own and operate three different platforms chambered in this caliber. I hope that RCBS will read this review and find out what the problem is. Most of reloading equipment is RCBS and I'm very happy with the performance that I get for the most part. Just beware of the cracking problem that I mentioned and it would be a good idea to have a stuck-case removal kit on hand just to be safe.
