Excellent quality and performance

I used this barrel on my first build. I wanted an accurate rifle. I got an ACCURATE rifle. 5 round groups 7/16" ~ 3/8" @ 100 yds, as good as I can hold. Interesting side, the barrel does not accumulate copper fouling. 150 rds & the patches don't turn green / blue!
The only item that needed attention was small burrs on inside of the locking lugs that scraped the bullet on feeding. A little 600a paper on a popsicle stick cured it.
Overall, an excellent buy and excellent value.

This is well worth the money. I got this set up. Installed it into a DPMS High-rise upper, DPMS Carrier, DPMS Free Float Tube and a YH Low Profile Gas Block. With the exception of the gas block, that I had to lap a time or two, everything went together well. Using a Sierra 52 Gr BTHP and Varget, which is not the best load for this twist rate, this gun shot a 5 bullet 1/2" MOA. Hot Dang, it's a shooter.

This one was a surprise ...

This one was a surprise to me. I ordered the Shillen drop in at a time when M4 profile barrels were impossible to find, so I figured why not try something different. I ended up with a rifle that frankly bores me to death by hitting a six inch steel plate at 300 yards as long as I can stand to waste ammo. When I drove out to examine the plate, the hits looked pretty tight so I painted it with the white spray can, and shot some more. A placement of 30 rounds at 300 yards in less than 4 inches. I was firing prone with a bipod, Sightmark 16 power triple duty scope, (nothing fancy) and a Mako sniper stock (with adjustable mono pod) cheap 55 grain reloads. I think with match grade ammo I might really have a tack driver on my hands.

This is a great choice ...

This is a great choice for serious competitors, with their own shop or access to a gunsmith to mount the front sight. In my case, I chose a screw-adjustable sight base from White Oak Armament, and had a friend who is both a machinist and master-level HP shooter cut the notches into the barrel. I broke-in the barrel by firing one round, thoroughly cleaning with Barnes CR-10, and repeating until very little blue showed -- indicating a smooth condition. Then I fired 3-shot strings with cleaning in between, again until the fouling was minimal. The whole process took about 25 rounds, but the result is a barrel that fouls very little. As for accuracy:with my usual 69-grain MK rapid-fire load, I can hold the X ring at 200 yd from a prone position. That's without any attempt to optimize OAL or charge, and without heavier bullets. I'm looking forward to going out to 600 this fall. In sum, a great barrel at a very fair price!

I am very satisfied with the AR-15 Shilen drop in SS barrel. When I received the barrel I noticed that it was not identified with the Shilen name and the chamber (.223 Wylde). I contacted Shilen and they paid for the UPS shipping to send to them to engrave the barrel data and shipped it back very quickly. Of course the barrel shoots great (I have other Shilen tubes). I was impressed with Midway and Shilen product support/customer service. This is truly a drop in since you just put it in the upper and install/torque the appropriate barrel nut. The front sight base/ barrel gas port fit perfectly. A very good barrel for service rifle or any other application. Thanks Midway for providing this product at a great price!
