I was attempting to fit all the pieces onto my M1A using caution. I ended up stripping the mounting bolt. My advice is to throw away the supplied lock washer as it will cant the mounting bolt. Now I have a useless mount. I should have returned it to Midway when I saw made in China on the box.

I was really excited to try this mount out on my Loaded M1A, but was ultimately disappointed. On the plus side, it has a longer rail, but the spacing seems larger than normal (I had to put a couple layers of electrical tape on the bottom of my Mk 4 rings to get them snug). It has a lot of ways to do gross adjustments to the mount, but the downside is theyre all ways for the mount to loosen up. Ive fired hundreds of rounds trying to zero it (it only took me a dozen to zero the iron sights), but something was always loosening up. I tried Loctite, different screws, remounting and something was always going askew. I have a match barrel, have good groups with iron sights, and I mounted my scope on another rifle and it sighted in easily. The mount just wont hold. With the dozens of weapons Ive sighted in, Ive never had this much difficulty sighting a weapon. If you can get the mount to hold, itll be awesome, but I could never get it to work.

Made in China...enough said. 2 of the 3 set screws stripped, rifle jams repeatedly. Have removed and put my $300.00 scope back on my Hunting rifle.

This is a great scope mount and I think it will serve me well on my M1A for many years to come. Make sure you get it all dialed in before you tear it apart and Blue Loctite the screws to secure it permanently.

I purchased this item for a new Springfield standard M1A. I am very impressed! First thing about it is that it is made of steel! When I mounted this on the rifle, it is solid! There is a long horizontal groove on the rifle that a tab on the front mount fits into. When the screw is tightened, wow, it does not move. I see that some people are having trouble with the set screws. I had none. The set screws are not meant to be over tightened, all they do is help lock the mounting screws in place. They have to be soft metal, otherwise the set screws would damage the mounting screw threads, and ruin the mount. So don't over tighten these set screws, just snug them up and you'll love this mount. Did I mention it's made of steel?

I've tried springfield armory, ultimak, a sage ebr chasis and an a.r.m.s. mount on my m1a. I've never liked any of them enough to keep them, each had their flaw that made it unacceptable to me personally. Having said that, I was sceptical trying a $100 mount that's design was new. I'm so pleased with the fit and function of this Leatherwood mount I'd buy another in an instant if I had another m1a. It finally SOLVES the out of spec receiver issue present with most newer commercial m1a rifles. It does take some patience to adjust it just right to your receiver, but if you can read, use simple tools and have any gunsmithing skill at all, you will do just fine with the installation of this mount. I had to use both supplied shims on the front of the rail for it to fit my m1a, but boy it fits like a glove. ONLY 1 negative, it's blued not parkerized. It looks good anyway ,but a parerized version would look nicer. Stop waiting and buy it, IT WORKS!

I mounted this on a Springfield NM M1A, and thought that surely this one would be high quality considering the price and the manufacturer, but I was wrong. It was easy enough to install all things considered, but I had a problem with the inferior set screws stripping just like another reviewer mentioned. The set screws are tiny allen head screws, and I could not find anything locally to replace them. Overall I believe this is a good design and the mount itself seemed nice, but the set screws are a vital part of this mount, and also its weak point. The set screws need to be made to tighter/better specifications. Also, the directions should include the words "Drive the stripper clip guide roll pin out with the BOLT CLOSED".
