The Impact Discarding Sabot (IDS) projectile couples a soft lead slug with a plastic sabot that remains with the slug during flight to provide stability, and improve accuracy. Upon impact, the slug exhibits controlled, yet devastating expansion. This is not loaded ammunition.

Reloaded some of this used the factory spec, and used old hulls from the factory Lightfields, found very easy to do, had three out of five rounds touching at 100 yd. could only use hulls once, before they were to deformed to be reloaded.

I reloaded these slugs ...

I reloaded these slugs using the data provided by the manufacture. Fiocchi un-skived hulls, and Solo 1250 powder. Fired it out of both a Marlin 512 and Savage 212. Both weapons shot cloverleaf groups at 50 meters. Loads chronographed close to data provided. Reloaded using a drill press, BPI hull-vise, and BPI roll crimper. Was initially having a problem with the roll crimper cutting into the top of the slugs. After contacting the manufacture and following their recommendation of lightly lubing both the top of the hull and the roll crimper, the cutting problem was significantly reduced. I have yet to shoot game with this slug, however, its accuracy combined with its velocity should make it a very effective out to 100 meters.

I loaded some and the roll crimps came out perfect. I got 4" groups at 100 yards, with very little drop. For up to 125 yards, these are the ultimate for hunting.

I thought that the Light ...

I thought that the Light field Commander was a very hard slug to reload. The data that sent with them only gives 4 hull types to choose from and the hull that is used from the factory isn't even available. My roll crimper would dig into the lead before the crimp was deep enough. But on the positive side once I finally was able to make a few after a year of trial and error I did find myself shooting one and half inch groups at 100 yards so if you can figure out how to load them they do shoot very well but the recoil is pretty strong.
