Product Information

A hardened 440C stainless steel sear which is surface ground with the lead angle changed to produce a crisp, light trigger let off. A special return spring coupled with the micro-polished sear gives the 77/22 an excellent trigger. Also fits the Ruger 77/44 and 77/50. Gunsmith fitting is required.

YOU MUST HAVE THIS!!! I put it in a 77/22 Hornet. Stock trigger pull averaged 5lbs 4 oz, and the new sear averages 2lbs 1oz with no creep. Very crisp "Glass rod" break to the trigger now.Comes with no instructions, but all you have to do is push out the trigger pivot pin and remove the trigger and sear return spring. Then push out the sear pin 1/2 way. Drop out the old sear, put the new sear in, slide the pins back in and place the sear return spring in place, then put the trigger and pin back in, and you're done. Takes only 15 minutes from first grabbing the rifle to shooting again.

I purchased the Volquartsen target sear and spring for my Ruger 77/44. When the parts arrived I took them out of the package and compared them to the factory ones. The new spring was definitely softer. A good start. I was very disappointed when I looked at the new sear. Whereas the factory sear was precision ground on multiple surfaces, the Volquartsen was a rough casting with NO machining or grinding! (other than the one drilled hole the sear pivots on) I used to work in a foundry and this is what we called a 'raw' casting. I installed it anyway hoping for the best. Trigger pull dropped from 7 1/2#'s to 5 1/4#'s. (probably because of the spring) Certainly not the 1 1/2-2#'s promised. Parts were returned to Midway. I own triggers and trigger parts from other companies and this is the poorest quality trigger parts I have ever bought.

The product was good after I sent it back to the factory to be repaired. It had not been finished. They got it back in a fairly timely manner, but I still had to go through all this trouble. And this was after I ordered a Timney, and sent it back to Midway for a refund, because it was defective also. Just lucky I guess

I ordered a Volquartsen target sear and spring replacement for a Ruger 77/22. Item arrived in two days, over the 4th of July, yet. The kit installs in about 2 minutes with no filing or adjustment necessary. Very good results: a 2 to 2.5 lb trigger pull instead of the factory 5.5 lbs. A little bit of creep now but I'll take it. Only four stars because of the creep.

My friend bought the timney kit and struggled with the safety and pre travel. I figured i would try the volquartsen. Installed in 5 min no safty issues and just a little pre travel. It is not 1.5 lbs. pull but is probably more like 3 to 4 lbs. but great for a deer gun trigger.

I bought this Volquartsen Target Sear and Spring for my Ruger 77/22 because the factory trigger sucked! It was way too heavy to use and hit anything. I read the reviews and liked what I saw on them. When parts showed up I went to replace the factory parts with my new ones. It was easy to do but I did have to do some fitting to get them to work right, but it was so easy to work on. I was even able to take out some of the creep in the trigger after reading on the internet how to do a trigger job on a ruger 77/22. I polished the part with 1500 grit sand paper and this seemed to do the best for me. I got a mirror finish on the areas that needed polishing. Now my trigger feels so much better, smoother and has a shorter pull. I am so happy with my trigger job and all the $ I saved by doing this myself.

Big disappointment, ...

Big disappointment, actually made my trigger worse! It may have lowered the pull weight slightly, (I don't have a gauge, so I'm going by feel) but it went from to heavy to my liking with the stock parts, to gritty, with creep and a longer take up with these parts. I ended up removing the Volquartsen sear, and using just the lighter spring. The mixed reviews here indicate there's a quality control issue, so I can't recommend this item.

Definately not 1.5# as indicated on the site. It is an improvement from 5# to 3# with little creep. Buy an adjustable trigger if you want to want to set it to a specific pull. There must have been some production changes that is the cause of this change from people saying they acheived lighter than the 3# unless I got a bad spring. 3 77/22s with the same result.

Like other reviewers, I found this sear and spring did not accomplish the stated 1.5 pound pull, but instead slightly over 2lb. Five pulls performed with a Lyman digital scale before and after installation. BEFORE: Factory trigger pull ranged from 1lb 15.7oz low to 2lb 11.7oz high and a five pull average of 2lb 4.5oz. AFTER installation of this part low of 2lb 0.9oz high of 2lb 3.8oz and a five pull average of 2lb 2.3oz. As you can see, while there was only an average loss of 2oz from the factory trigger pull weight, the real gain here is consistency of trigger pull (3/5 pulls being 2lb 3oz). Regarding the part itself, although functionally smooth it had deep cosmetic pitting on the sides. Mostly an aesthetic complaint given that I would think Volquartsen could do better. Overall I would do it again for the gain in consistency, but would like to see Volquartsen call a spade a spade, and a 2lb sear a 2lb sear.

The quality of the sear does not appear very good. It looks like it was cast and had minimal work done after casting. Not polished at all. It did reduce my horrible factory 7 lb trigger to 2.5 lbs but it has absolutely awful creep now and the safety will not engage. I will attempt to stone it a little to make the trigger engage deeper so the safety works, then I will polish it to try and eliminate the creep. I would not recommend this product. If I can't lose the awful creep, mine will be going to my gunsmith to have him work his magic on the factory parts. He worked a 7722 hornet for me and it is crisp as glass at about 2 lbs. I guess that is what I expected with this part from the other reviews, but it is no where even close to a custom trigger job.

I recently acquired a Ruger 77/22 VBZ .22 LR rifle. I really like the rifle but the trigger was not the greatest. According to my Lyman trigger pull gauge the trigger was releasing at about 4 lbs., 11 oz. Way too heavy for the type of shooting I'm planning on using this rifle for. (Ground squirrel shooting in south western Idaho.)Once the sear arrived it took me all of 5 minutes to install it in place of the stock Ruger sear. Once the gun was back together I function tested it for safety. Everything checked out with no issues. Tested the trigger pull 10 times with the Lyman gauge. Highest trigger pull was 1 lb 9 oz, lowest was 1 lb 5 oz. Average over the 10 pulls was 1 lb 8 oz. I'm very pleased with the way the trigger breaks. This was much easier than stoning the trigger and sear to lighten the pull weight.
