I've been shooting these ...

I've been shooting these in a S&W 25 and a Ruger Bisley with excellent accuracy at velocities up to 900 fps. The Bisley has undersized throats which causes severe leading with most bullets, but not with these. The base of the bullet is slightly concave and the softer swaged lead may help in this regard.The lube on these bullets doesn't seem to produce the same smoky residue as the "crayon" lube on most hard-cast bullets so cleanup is easier. The lube is a black flaky substance that gets everywhere during reloading, but it seems to do its job.These bullets are a true .454 and require a significant case mouth bell to seat properly. Lee expander dies don't seem to bell the case mouth enough, but Hornady and RCBS dies can. The swaged lead can be easily damaged on seating. I found the Lee round nose seating die to work the best (the Hornady die mangled the sides of the bullet).

I have a 1917 S&W and 2 ...

I have a 1917 S&W and 2 Webley .455's that are cut for 45 acp, this bullet is perfect. The concave base fills up the rifling and shoots tighter groups than .452 bullets. I load the 45 acp light and its easy to identify the ammo as a light load. Great for .45 autorim and .455 Webley too.

Yeah, the lube is pretty ...

Yeah, the lube is pretty messy but the performance is tops! I had just about given up on getting any kind of accuracy out of my Uberti 1876 Winchester in .45 Colt, than I tried these. My rifle has a larger bore and chamber and these were a perfect fit, it went from shooting 1 foot groups at 30 yards to 10 shots under 2 inches with the Remington bullets. A proper set of dies (RCBS Cowboy .45 Colt) helped also.

I agree this is an affordable bullet. But I also agree with the other reviews. That this flaky lube is a real problem with the reloading equipment. It just gunks everything up. Of course if Remington used a better quality lube that didnt flake off in the dies and press's they would probably charge more for the bullets.

For producing accurate ...

For producing accurate and consistant factory duplication loads in the .45 Colt these bullets are excellent. The accuracy from my guns was very good, with no barrel leading. The lube could be improved on, as it does make a mess. Considering the results I overlook the mess and just clean my dies as I need to.

I shoot in SASS matches, the Remington bullet is very accurate at reduced velocities and I do not have the "leading" problems that I have experenced using other bullets.

This is a wonderful ...

This is a wonderful bullet. The flaky lube that some complain about keeps my bores free of lead fouling. In three .45 Colt handguns and one 24 inch Model '92 clone this bullet is as accurate as any. When I am too lazy to cast and lube my black powder bullets I can fill that slight hollow base with homemade BP lube and seat these Remmies over a full charge of BP and a .030 Walters Wad and shoot a full SASS Match with no worries. If no one can tell, I like this bullet.

I've been using these ...

I've been using these bullets for quite awhile now and am very impressed with them. In the beginning the dirty lube put me off and required regular cleaning of my seating dies but I came up with a solution. I bought a bottle of Lee's Liquid Alox and relubed them with the Alox. Once dry the Alox trapped the lube Remington uses. I just finished loading 500 rounds to a seating depth of 1.59 and the last round was exactly as deep as the first with no cleanup required. I just ordered another 1000 and will continue to order and use them as long as they remain this inexpensive. By the way, I also resize them to 452 as well.

If you think there's ...

If you think there's something wrong with the photo when you "hover to enlarge" and see a flaky, nasty-looking bullet that looks like something from a history book, describing the first "Minie Balls" ever used...Nope, that is the product you'll receive. I do wish I had read Mr. Stevenson's suggestion about using Alox prior to loading. It would have saved a lot of cleanup time. About 20 minutes with acetone on a rag finally got the gunk off my press. A scrub brush and some Dawn liquid got it off my hands.The bullet performs well. That's not an issue. The flaky, sticky lube is the only complaint I have and I did have to clean my seating die (RCBS) and my Lee factory crimp die 3 and 4 times, respectively, when making the 500-round batch I first produced when experimenting with this projectile. About an hour in the vibratory tumbler cleaned the rounds up nicely and, believe me, there was PLENTY of lube left on the bullets afterward.

I use this in my COLT ...

I use this in my COLT single action. The lube on these bullets is nasty and flaky- I end up wiping every loaded round off. It loads well and is fairly accurate- my COLT has oversized mouths so that is not the bullet's fault. I use this bullet with Red Dot, W231, Universal, and black powder. This is my favorite .45 bullet - except for the nasty lube that your hands get covered in! For historical info, this is one of the original bullet designs and correct weight for .45 Colt.
