Product Information

Hornady's V-Max Bullets feature a polymer tip which enhances accuracy and promotes devastating expansion. The tip raises the ballistic coefficient for faster velocity and helps to stabilize the bullet in flight. It also acts as a wedge, initiating bullet expansion. The copper jacket provides the necessary bearing surface for maximum stability out of the barrel, and the jacket is built to withstand the fast twist rates of the most advanced varmint rifles. This is not loaded ammunition.

hornady makes great varminit bullets

I load 4895 with get ...

I load 4895 with get 4400fps out of a 17 Remington with a Douglas barrel. Out to 350 yards you cannot beat it. I even shot a coyote in the yard at around 100 yards killing him stone dead with a shot to the chest.

Awesome product. Loaded in my 17 fireball that I custom chambered in a new bat action. I've taken everything from chipmunks to 42 lb. Wyoming coyotes with it. People who say that this bullet doesn't have enough knockdown power are simply guessing and have no personal experience with it. A bullet doesn't kill by knockdown power. It kills with shock down power. Rapid expansion traveling outwards from the point of impact creates more trauma than something just simply hitting hard.

In the last couple of weeks I've taken 12 ground hogs from 6 to 12 lbs with these bullets at ranges out to 230 yards using a Remington 700 BDL in .17 Remington - one shot, one kill. Hit them in the boiler room and they are dead right there. They are remarkably accurate, 3 shot groups average 1/2" or less at 100 yards, hit like a small hammer, and perfect for hunting in rocky pastures and farm fields where the danger of ricochet has to be minimized. I bought the rifle to shoot this specific bullet in rocky pastures that are so prevalent here. Farmers like that, and it makes it easier to get more fields to hunt.

I have been using these in my Remington SPS .17 Fireball and have sub 1" groups at 100 yards. I would not hesitate using them on Coyote's, or fox at all. I have shot MANY crows and woodchuck's with them with awesome results! They are the only bullet I will be using out of this gun. Furthest shot is 270 on a crow, DRT!

Heard more stories about it's too light, it comes apart, it strips it's jacket, the wind blows it all over, in fact so many stories that I decided to try a box. Absolutely fantastic accuracy, devastating killing power. Any chuck or crow I've fired at I havent lost. Longer than 25 gr bullets hence able to shoot it in 1in9 twist bbls.

These bullets are great for small critters such as crows and tree rats, but the bullets lack the knock-down power for larger creatures, like foxes and yotes. And as far as accuracy goes, these v-maxs are extremly accurate. I would recomend these bullets for small varmint blasting.Good Hunting!

I load these for a CZ527 varmint in 17 Rem. Much more accurate than the 25 gr hollow points. it is amazing how hard these little bullets hit. I have taken animals from crows to foxes all with devastating results.

I have used these bullets on everything from ground squirrels to prairie dogs. With both of my 17 Remingtons, these bullets have punched 5 shot one hole groups. To say that I am pleased is quite the understatement. If they never make any other 17 bullet but this one, that be fine with me.
